Hi Everyone and a sort of Happy Xmas to you all
Could somebody throw some light on this …. I have a 997.1 2006 and yesterday went into the garage and noticed two small drips off yellow fluid on the garage floor ,as you look at the back of the car its on the right hand side never had this before...….Now I have not used the car for about 8 weeks what with weather and generally most places are shut ….is it possible that the a/c seals are starting to weep through lack of use and am I assuming that it is air con fluid

Any thoughts

Mike

Hey Mike - Happy (almost) Christmas!
This is probably not A/C fluid (which is blackish-grey), but more than likely either oil (if it has had a recent change / not had much use since a change) or coolant.
Fresh oil is closer to yellow than coolant which is usually more orange regardless of age.

Oil: Given the layout of components at the rear right of the car, this could either be a leaking filter housing if it's not be tightened properly, the return line for the Tandem Pump, or worst case, the Tandem Pump itself - a known weak point as the cover rusts and can eventually leak. I doubt that it's the drain plug as it's in pretty much the dead centre of the engine. Might also be a core plug, thinking about it, as there's one right at the bottom of the engine below the Tandem pump body.
Coolant: Possibly a leak from the Water Pump, but that would usually result in drips somewhere between the exhaust tips. Insofar as I recall, the main coolant lines are too far forward to drip near the back of the car.

Hope this helps, and it's easily identified / fixed!

Hi Stig
Thanks for coming back

Don't think its coolant my coolant is pinky colour , its definitely not engine oil and my b/f is clear the only thing I can think of is a/c about a yr ago I had a leak and it was fixed (one off the pipes) could it the dye that they put in to find a a/c leak

When it stops raining I will go into the garage and check for leaks and take a piccy (fI can download it )

Happy Xmas

Mike

Just been out to the garage looked underneath and nothing bone dry ……………..so now I'm scratching my head

Just been out just now and its again dry...………..its a sealed garage so I cant see anything getting in...…………..what colour is mices wee ????

Mouse pee has a strong ammonia smell. I thought my garage was secure until one appeared from underneath after I had backed it out of the garage. Subsequently found it had been dining on the pollen filter foam gasket, a particular favourite of theirs, apparently. £270 later.....

I had drips on the garage floor in front of the drivers side rear wheel and it was aircon fluid as far as I know. By chance it was booked to get the aircon radiators changed a couple of days later and I mentioned this to the garage who said they changed the O rings and fixed it. I didn't go into details but have had a quick surf and this might help:

The yellow colour seems to be an indictor added to the aircon fluid to show leaks.
