Thought I'd post this on the Boxster and 996 forums but a couple of us were talking at the E Mids Club night in May about restoring faded and yellowing headlights on 996s which one of our members had sorted on his car. There's a (1 page) article in the June issue (no 255) of 911 Porsche World on the subject which may be of use to people. Thought I'd share [;)]

Cheers Craig

I would be interested in this too - only one of my headlights has started to mist over, I cleaned it with toothpaste which worked initially, but now it has started to cloud over again. there appears to be some sort of coating which has broken down and the moisture/sun gives it a pale green tinge.

Hi Guys
There are also a few videos on "YouTube" if you search for Plastic Headlight Restoration.
Which may be of interest.

Forgive me if this sounds a dumb question, but presumably you can only get at the outer face of the lens - that is to say there's no way to clean up the inner face?

I did mine the other year as they had discoloured using 3m headlamp restoration kit after watching the demo on YouTube. There not perfect but a vast improvement. For little cost and a bit of elbow grease it's worth a try, especially when you consider the cost of new ones
