Spent the day at a trackday at Snetterton and witnessed quite an amazing thing, I was a passenger in a well honed 996 GT3 and for a couple of laps we 'tried' to get past a well prepared racing Boxster (of the 986 variety) only passing it on the straight, around the corners it was flat and precise.
The Boxster was Zenith blue and had a single seat and various cut off switches on the outside, the giveaway was the big bugger off PCGB windscreen visor - is it anyone from here or just some bod giving free advertising to PCGB.

The day was a cracker.

It is one of us but 'us' are surprised that you find it amazing that a mid-engined car will go around corners faster than a 911. [;)]

During the Boxster party at Castle Combe Mark told me that my 2.7 was going around Quarry faster than a GT3.

JCB..

Ah - so you were one of the b*stards in the GT3s slowing me down! [;)]

The bad news for GT3 owners everywhere is we were running yesterday at about 80kgs over weight so I imagine things will be even tighter when we manage to shed the pounds!

It was a great day and the driving was (on the whole) pretty fair. I did run across a couple of guys in quicker cars who were not prepared to let me through on the straight, despite tha fact that I could do a quicker lap overall, because they had the bhp advantage in a straight line. It's a difficult one, I agree.

I think I was surprising one of the 997 GT3 Cup drivers with the speed through the corners too....

See separate post about racing at Cadwell this weekend!
Cheers!

Well Marcus, wish I had come over and said hello - I've only had my Boxster since March and not really had a chance to see it's 'full potential', but fair enough, we were well impressed.
I was only a passenger, but had rides in both a 996 Turbo and as I said before a well sorted GT3, both drivers were a little more surprised to see the Boxster do as well as it did.
If you can, post up the full spec.

Hats off mate [:)]

Mark,
I wasn't originally intending to attend - the bank holiday weekend coincides with my mother's birthday. I usually miss it for racing commitments but this year we are not at the track that weekend. However, I may be able to pursuade her that admiring cars is a good way to spend it. One minor issue is cost - I have no trailer or towbar and usually pay my race team (Harvey Racing, shameless plug: 01992 462662) to haul the car for me. I'm racing with them this weekend and will find out some costs or other options for transportation. No problems in principle for the car to be on display.

What is security like? Where are the cars stored overnight? How do I stop little kids pulling the fire extinguisher release?!

Cheers,
Marcus

Easy, threaten them with a chinese burn or a dead leg !

I love kids, but could'nt eat a whole one.

You could leave the pin in the extinguisher, thats what I do between events to prevent accidents when my little darlings are clambering in the car
