Yet another A/C failure

Really not happy that my car has suffered the same fate as so many others that have posted here - the air con has failed.
Planning to replace both condensors and the drier myself having read a really informative article on the Boxster forum.
However, I'm hoping someone can clarify whether or not the 987 parts are the same as the 981 parts? Different suppliers say different things....

Glynn,

Just interested to know why you want to know if 987 and 981 a/c components are the same? If you don’t want to use Porsche original parts just go to someone like Design911 and follow their recommendations for your 987/981. They offer a 10% discount to Club members (enter code PCGB010 at checkout). Mahle I think have a decent reputation.

Glynn,

I’ve had a look at the PET for a 987.2 and a 981:

987: 997 573 911 02 (superseded 997 573 111 03)

981: 991 573 111 02

Take from that what you will!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff for your help

I'm not too bothered about using OEM Porsche parts - they have already failed in a ridiculous short mileage (30k)

I asked the question because I found conflicting advice between different sellers and, for example, Design 911 prices are significantly higher for 981 vs 987.

Glynn

Understood Glynn. The fact that Design 911 charge different prices for 987 and 981 condensers suggests that they’re different, although as noted above they have a different part number so it doesn’t answer your question.

You could try contacting a local Porsche Independent to see if they can help. I would imagine replacing 987 and 981 condensers is something they’re doing on a fairly regular basis, and unless requested I doubt that they’ll use Porsche original parts.

That's a good shout actually. I'll call the indy that serviced my car last year - I would expect them to be helpful.

Thanks for the idea

Glynn, are you sure, just had mine re gassed and working fine now. The gas leaks out if not used.
