Yorkshire Regional Concours

Yorkshire Regional Concours will be held at Harewood House on Sunday 5 July 2005. We are very happy that our long term sponsors Strasse, will once again be supporting this event.

As in previous years, this is a street concours, a 'pride of ownership' event for cars, which are in regular use and driven to and from Harewood, so do not be put off by thinking your car is not good enough. It is a day of fun and relaxation and maybe a little polishing.

Centred around our favourite car brand, Strasse are bringing along a selection of cars for sale, and goodies to suit all pockets. Benefit from hearing pearls of wisdom from Strasses expert technicians on hand all day including David "The Legend" Sunderland and growing in his reputation for "telling it like it is" Dave Forrest.

The band from last year, Three Men and a Bass, will once again keep the afternoon swinging and non car activities include Bridget and Virgin Vie who will be carring out mini make overs, and bringing along Virgin's fabulous new jewellery range. Kym from the Yorkshire Soap Company will show us her hand made olive oil soaps. Liz Wheeler will bring along greetings cards, framed and unframed prints from original watercolours by Paul Laugier, who is also a television and film set designer.

Additionally this year, our 997 northern register secretary Peter Bradley, is arranging a 997 display to get parked together one of Porsches newest models.

Good food, good wine and great company, come and join us whether you enter the concours or not, we want to fill the lawns at Harewood with Porsches.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE OF THE CONCOURS IS SUNDAY 5TH JUNE AND NOT 5TH JULY AS STATED ABOVE

Hi Martin -

For the record I presume you mean the date is 5 June not 5 July as per your post.

Sorry I will not be able to make it - on holiday !.

Happy motoring - Randolph Coward

Hello,

being a first time owner of a Porsche, can someone tell what's expected at a Concours. I'd like to take part and meet other 964 owners, but what lengths of cleanliness do I need to go to? I was talking to a guy who used to show his MG and he polished the underneath of the car. Do I have to go that far?? Any tips from concours exhibitors will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Tracey

Hi Tracey,

The Harewood concours is a 'street concours' i.e., for car that are used regularly rather than those that are used purely for show or display purposes. This means that certain areas, such as under-bonnet and chassis are excluded from judging and only the exterior bodywork, interior, wheels and wheelarches are judged, so no need to polish underneath, unless you really want to.

Details of the concours rules are on the club's main website under FAQs (towards the top right hand corner of the screen). These will give you the full information about what is judged and the points to be scored for each area so that you know how to prepare your car. There was also a selection of articles in Porsche Post around this time last year about concours preparation. If you can get hold of these you might find them useful.

If you do want to enter, return the form sent out by Strasse to Mark Batchelor by 30th May or give him a call (if you need his number let me know and I will arrange to give it to you). If you don't enter have a good day at the event and get some tips for the future from this years concours entrants.

Thanks Ian, I'll have a look in the places you suggest and decide what to do. I'll have just returned from holiday on the previous Friday so orginally thought I was pushing it to get my car in tip top condition. Will have to do my polishing before I go! Thanks for your advice.

Cheers,
Tracey

Tracy , you don't need to enter the concours to visit the show. Just turn up & park on the lawn in front of the house with the rest of the Porsches

I will have my latest painting of the Porsche Jagermeister 934 RSR Turbo completed and on display At Harewood on the Sunday too. I will running a free competition to win a signed and numbered limited edition print of this painting. Its easy I have not given this painting a titile that's the competition you get to name it and win the No 2 edition print. you will be able to say "I named that painting". There will be a slip to fill in on the day and the winner will be posted on the news page at www.porschesport.com on the 11th June.

I think I'll give it a go James, then I'll be able to chat to other 964 owners and pick up some tips. The weather at the mo, though, isn't good for polishing!
