Was asked my a mate in CH to help spec his new GTS.... was all going well until I saw the price!!!

Without boring you with the exchange rates etc, basically the same car from a UK Dealer, take away the VAT and then add the duties and Swiss VAT comes in 33% cheaper than the Swiss dealer list price!! 75k Sterling vs equivalant of 105k sterling!!!

Now debating how keen a UK dealer would be to supply a LHD, Euro spec car...

All a bit mad.... someone somewhere is being ripped off!

Rick,

Same kind of thing going on in Australia. Luxury car tax on top of already high standard taxes means that an "Aussie spec" Porsche has a lot of the options list ticked to give some semblance of value. When I was in Sydney last year, they were selling a brand new GT3 resplendent in speed yellow, for something like AUD300k I think !! If it wasn't 300k it wasn't far off.

Guessing the Swiss cars are not specced up to any degree?

Cheers,

Ben.

Rick .... you Swiss and Aussies are very Rich so you should pay more tax and maybe Switzerland join the EU so we can all share that German Gold[:D]

What about us expats, living in Australia i have a Cayman R on order at $174.000 on the road, but in saying that i have a 06 Cayman S for sale at $98.000 [:)]

This is the thing... there is no Luxury tax in CH... it's a function of the weak £ I think...BMW just got fined massively for trying to make life difficult for Swissys wanting to buy cars outside of CH and bring them in... had told their German dealers to "evade the biz"....

Even in Euros, importing a UK into France would save 20% here...

And no, Swiss ones actually not any better specced... 2yr warrenty instead of 3 for a start!

Ho hum, an FX punt really I guess.

And Hacki-------like yer werk!! [:D]

It´s an original qoute by the Holy Preacher of the True Leichtbau Price Levels, which I stored for the moment, when Simon Extreme would be mentioned again...[:D[;)]

On the other hand your juicy used cars look like a good deal for us swissies at the moment. The hills are alive with the sound of flat 6?

The 993 RS certainly had a few hundred rpm knocked off in 3, 4 and 5 courtesy of a Swiss only gearbox and the TVR boys struggle to get under the nosie limit but otherwise we're pretty unmolested by the authorities (as long as you stick to the speed limit)!

Punishment can be severe I have heard, one guy was subjected to a week of making clock springs! [;)]

In 2004, in a built up area if you broke the speed limit by more than 22.5 mph (36kph) the fine was 25% of your net income (min CHF 1000 --- currently £650), three days in prison, and your drivers licence suspended for a month, plus points ?

Then having been caught, If VIN and shell numbers don't match together with engine gearbox and official build sticker still in the front bootlid they will take you, and make you watch having your car being crushed while being spanked with a 928 service manual (hebrew edition) by a very strict parking attendant.

One more reason why I love this forum.[:D]

Rick are the residuals proportionately higher? How do they police having a non Swiss registered car in the country all the time? Must be difficult with it being surrounded by other EU countries?

You see the cost of new luxury cars in Oz and do wonder how there are any on the roads!![][][]

Yes, residuals considerably higher.. Aston V8 for example about 50% more than the same UK car 2nd hand...

And my 993 C2S seems to be actively sought after... Euro50k equiv minimum bid... some guys out there asking Euro 80k+ for them!

(Were only 34 of the 3400 made imported to CH).

But I was including in my calculations the cost of registering in CH... as a resident, I can't get away with riding around on UK plates... they get pretty upset about that...

(Actually got stopped by the Rozzers for NOT speeding... they were suspicious...)
