Steve, I know PP is always published ahead of time and I know we're always pushed to get next month's column written by the end of the month, but did I miss the end of June??? Enjoy your weekend, I'll be thinking of you as I'm huddled around the TV!!! Regards Dave

Thanks Dave [:D]. Title now changed and you've got your month back!

What are you doing with it this weekend? Fixing, modifying, tracking or just plain old driving it?

For me it's a basic service - plugs, oil, filters and valve cover seals. And while I'm in there I have two of the main engine tins to change. And will hopefully get an hour off here and there to watch the British GP [:)]

Just back from 2 weeks in Crete. Looking forward to trying out my new KW3 set-up, and catching up on rennlist discussions.

In at work this morning (but I still swapped the Golf for the 964). Just gazing out of the window from time to time! She;s sitting next to a 997 and looking very nice too! Off for a drive in a bit as one of the guys has caught the Porsche bug [;)] Weve got friends up for the weekend but may find time to start those mirrors tomorrow evening... Chris

Off to Gurston Down Hill Climb, my first event there. I have done the school day but tomorrow is competition. Last weekend was Anglesey, the weekend before was Curborough and next weekend another Curborough. Very busy the car is flying !! Nigel

would of been fitting my big reds but customs havent released the mounting brackets from VCI yet......gutted [] oh well there is always next week!! You will be lucky to watch the gp this week steve....is quite a big job your doing!!! i know i have been there!! best of luck with it though. Let us know how you get on. Tim

Not doing anything with mine this weekend, but taking her in for a minor service and MOT on Mon [] Hopefully all will be well, but you never know whats lurking within! Got a couple of days off next week to spend waxing and showing some TLC ready for R8 concours at Chatsworth next Sun. hopefully the weather will be great and I'll post up some pics [8D] Cheers Craig

Would have been fitting RS engine mounts and re-inforcing the engine carrier but alas still waiting on the bits from Rennline.

Just looked at her on the way past with the lawnmower, wish I had more time... Faultless run there & back to Le Mans last weekend. amazing how much rubbish you can fit in when you want to and despite being full off mine & my mates camping gear for the weekend, still managed to find room for a couple of dozen bottles of wine and (full size) bottles of beer, along with the remnants of the weekend's drinking. And I used to think the 944 could hold a lot of stuff!

Well by 7 pm this evening I was done and truly done in! [:D] I managed to get it all stripped down to change the plugs, put new valve cover gaskets on (and some new studs at the same time) and wrestle out the big bumper tin and fit the new one. I decided to save the bell housing tin until another day (I couldn't summon the energy to get the heat exchanger off) and will finish the service by doing the oil change next weekend. It's nice to hear what everyone else has (or hasn't) been up to [:)]. Look forward to hearing from everyone again next weeked. In the mean time, here's what the job looked like half way through with everything off [:D].

p.s. pics of replacing the bumper tin are in Tim's 'engine tin thread'.

Steve, Posh garage-tiled floor & central heating-are you doing all the work with the car on ramps?Although I have a garage creeper,it makes one closer to the engine & therefore less comfortable when undoing bolts,so when considering fitting my new(er) heat exchangers myself,I am put off by the thought of getting stuck when one of the bolts shears,etc-note to myself-get a secondhand 2 post garage hoist-really a rambling post encouraged by your picture of bits. All I've done this weekend is think about buffing the offside front wing to get rid of the milking fade. Cheers, Colin.

Colin, no garage at my house, all the bits are piled up on the floor in the utility room [:D]. I use jack stands rather than ramps as you really need the wheels off when doing these sort of jobs. Apart from better access, I find it's better for light too. At the moment I've decided that removing heat exchangers is a job for the experts because they're much better placed for dealing with the problem of rusty studs that might break. A case of knowing my limitations.

Steve , I agree,I normally put it on ramps, then jack it from there-1 side at a time-saves a lot of effort. Also agree about rusty studs-leaving it until next service means killing 2 birds with 1 heat exchangers but I fancied replacing sooner then I could repair the flanges & any other little brackets etc & sell the old one repaired to recoup some money.Although I have a large garage, the large bit is full of an MGB under restoration & you get so much more light outside-trouble is-if I get stuck on the 964,then unless the 924S is left outside as well,my wifes backup car would be trapped in the garage-so more ramblings & hesitation but fancy having a go at the heat exchanger. Cheers, Colin.
