Your Car Wanted

Dear Ken

I believe that my colleague, Dominic Holtam has been in contact with you trying to track down a 964 Cabriolet.

In addition, I am putting together a '964 Essential Guide' for GT Purely Porsche and was hoping that you would be able to help me source some cars. The Essential Guide basically covers the history of a particular Porsche model, taking in model variations, production figures and so on.

I was hoping you would be able to put a post on the 964 Register forum to see if a few of your members would be interested in having their cars featured. The models we are after are as follows and are required in as original condition (including items like wheels, mirrors etc) as
possible:

1 x 964 Carrera 2
1 x 964 Carrera 4
1 x 964 Convertible
1 x 964 Targa
1 x 964 RS
1 x 964 Turbo (3.3 or 3.6, it doesn't matter which)

We would be looking to do the shoot at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground near Leicester on either Tue 10, Wed 11, Thu 12 or Fri 13 May.

Please could you let me know if you are able to post this information on your forum? It would be great to have the PCGB on board and to give the 964 a bit of extra exposure in the magazine.

Kind Regards

I'll give the guy a call and see what is involved, sounds like it could be a fun day out.

Regards

I called Chris and he said he was only interested in a genuine 964 RS for the test, no replicas or RHD [;)].

He had already had a call and a car for the day so perhaps next time.

Yoda

I called Chris today and offered my RS but he never mentioned an issue with RHD or LHD (mine is RHD), I will call him in the morning to clarify this and if he is after a LHD then you can jump in.

Ollie

Hi Ollie

Chris mentioned you had offered your car and even though all RHD RSs are replicas of the real thing, he said it would do for the photos as they could obscure the windows using a filter so you couldn't see inside. That way, real RS enthusiasts wouldn't be offended.

He also said that as Red isn't a proper RS colour, they could use photoshop and make it black, white or something more respectable.

Look forward to seeing your RS Replica in the magazine.

Jimbob - if they blank out the reg number, you could even pretend its your RS replica in the magazine.

Regards

ollie....as you can see Feroz is clearly a) jealous b) dillusional c) partaking of a Phat One.....you'll come to realise that envy is a pitiful condition heightened strangely by LHD RS ownership......but they are really nice chaps when you meet them and they always wave as I pass them! enjoy the day!

It is amazing how misguided people can be! First, lets look at the RHD vs LHD arguement. We all know that limited edition cars are for the decerning motorist and that it therefore follows that the RHD car is for the true enthusiast while the LHD is for everybody else. Secondly, there is the issue of colour. Since when was black a "proper" RS colour? In fact, it is hard to think of a Porsche colour that is less RS than Black. Everybody knows that after the "weird" special RS colours, the only true classic colour is Red. I believe that production numbers would support this. How many wanted black! Finally, when talking about originality, who would want a LHD car in black with a non original steering wheel and pimped up instrument dials?[;)][:D] (besides that, its a nice car, Yoda!!)

Oh well, I had better put the car up for sale as it has been established that I have a replica RS in a non RS colour [;)]

But not before I get to use Bruntingthorpe for the day and then Spa and the Ring the following weekend with 11 other owners.

Even if they don't want your car why don't you come down for the day (when we know what day) as my brother in law is also coming in his 3.2 Clubsport for a fun drive there and home.

Sorry Simon but I think you've been misled. It's actually RHD cars built before 1990 that are more desirable when made in limited numbers. Lets look at the evidence 1989 speedster more desirable than rhd 964 speedster ! and Boxster 550 speedster. 1973 Carrera RS no arguement definately more desirable than rhd 964 RS and even Porsche agree, they were so worried that no one would buy that they only made 49 cars for GB[:D][:D][:D] and then because they knew that anyone buying one would be a softie they went and fitted power steering, what were Porsche thinking[:(][8D]

NO! NO! NO!

Total misunderstanding and destortion of the facts!

While I follow the logic of older limitied edition cars being worth more than later limited edition cars, it is obvious that if you take 2 cars of similar vintage the the rarer car is more desirable. And the prices reflect this. Why are people prepared to pay so much more ofr a RHD 964 RS than a leftie? Simple. Its a better car [;)] Have you ever heard of people paying more for the lesser product?

As for the power steering comments, I would argue that it wasn't because the Brits are soft that they fitted power steering but because we are hard and true enthusiasts. The British RS driver doesn't just save it for the track where the lack of power steering would be ok. We use it as an everyday drive even though most LHD drivers think that the car is too raw for everyday use.

So, to sumerise, the RHD cars are more valuable, more desirable and driven by harder men (and women) [;)][:D][:D]

Nah [:D] the reason they sell for more is that the few softies who buy them have no choice, if they want softie power steering. The real hard bunch are those of us that take there RS's on nice long continental holidays , the lhd being designed for the purpose. The Germans were'nt silly they knew only the real enthusiasts would buy lhd in England so they did'nt have to worry about the softies venturing over in there rhd's [:D]

Laurence

So what you are saying is that I sold my perfectly good soft 996 Carrera 4 and have made the biggest mistake of my life by buying an even softer RHD RS [;)]

How will I be able to drive the car now?

Oh the shame of RHD RS ownership, anyone know where I can get a brown paper bag from [:D]

Nothing to be ashamed of. Just because the masses want to justify buying and inferior machine by ganging up on those with a really exclusive, collectable and supperior piece of machinery, doesn't mean you need a BPB.

And another thing............. remember the soft LHD market needed a lot more Touring versions than were needed for the RHD market.

The more I think about this the more I realise that the only true RS must be the RHD car. It is the most desired 964 RS, its the most collectable, its the most valuable, its the rarerest and the rest are just mass marketcopies to please the lhd "heathens" [:D]

Technically ollie you have hardened up a little going from the ultra soft 996 to the meerly soft rhd 964 RS. However should you wish to achieve the full hard as nails status that we lhd RS folk enjoy then you will have to sucumb to the "less is more" mantra of the leitchbau. Oh help i think i'm turning into Des[:D][;)]

Just to put you guys on the right track.

1. Peruda only sold 11 cars in the UK last year - not because they are exclusive but because they are pants!

2. Red is not exclusive - think yuppy and car parks full of them in the 80/90s shouting "look at me". Also, lots of red RHD 964 RSs (jim, ollie, simon etc) = common

3. As for why people pay more for an inferior product - I call it "footballer" syndrome. Too much money, they believe everything they are told, they confuse poor taste with exclusivity (see 1 above). Think gold chains, bling jewelery, mock tudor/georgian pillars on the house.

As for black - think stealth, think classy, think timeless. Audrey Hepburn in the little black dress.

Nuff said [:D]

Never thought of you as Audrey Heburn but if you insist.................... and yes, your car is a bit of a big girls blouse [:D][:D][:D]

F'oz.....turn up in a little Black dress on Saturday, wear it during the Briefing, and I will write an official admission for publication on the Fourm of the superiority of LHD cars and Drivers and Sell my RHD and buy a leftie! THIS I have to see![8D]

Jimbo - bring your camera!!! Not sure you will be able to sell your car though, too common.
