3 Cars are stood side by side for a show down.....

1, Saab 93 1.8 sport turbo.2003
2, Volkswagen corrado 2.0 1993
3, Porsche 944s 2.5 16 v coupe 1988

I think the saab will be the first to 60 mph because of the turbo, the corrado will be the first to 100 mph but the porsche will be the first to 140mph, what do you think..... my boss owns the saab, my best mate owns the carrado and i own the porka...........i would love it if i can screw them all on al three but i dont think it`s going to happen..................what do you recon...

Just about all corrados I've seen near where I live have been Innited (modified badly) and are usually weighted down by some ridiculously oversized sound system thus being slower accelerating but I suspect the one you're on about hasn't so not to sure about that then really The corrado is 0-60 in 6.9 the saab is 8.2 and the 944 is 8.0 dunno about 0-100

I can't find figures on the VW (you could try to Google it)

The Saab isn't dazzlingly impressive and a good Lux would beat it to 60.

You'd wait all day to see which one got to 140 as neither will.

Just ask to follow you accross country on good A-B roads and the loser buys the drinks, it won't be you.

The corrado VR6 would do 60 in less the 7 seconds, but the 2.0l 16v will not get any ware near that figure. I have owned a few corrados including a 2.0l and all I can say is they handle very well (the only front wheel drive car you can drift[;)]) but 0-60 forget it. My mate decided to run his at a ¼ mile it did it in 17.9 seconds. You could knock ½ a second off because of a bad gear change and maybe another ½ as the boot was full of gear but the best I think it could do would be about 16.5 seconds. As for a country road it would be very difficult to shake one off your tail (If I still had my corrado I would take you up on the bet). The 1.8 16v would do 60 in about 8.5 seconds but the 2.0l probably about 9.5. As to the Saab I have no idea but it would be a long way behind both on a country road.

yep I miss read the info about them except the 944 the corrado was 15.6 actually I was reading the VR6 just below it instead and the saab is actually 11.5 seconds how foolish I were

I love Corrado's and was considering a VR6 just before I decided to go the 944 route but was totally dissapointed by the condition and the ropey mods that the vast majority of them seemed to be festooned with. It is such a shame when these great cars depretiate to the extent that they become affordable to the Chavs and low-lifes. Just as well 944's have a reputation of being expensive to own due to the Porsche brand which keeps their greasy mits off them. A mate of mine had the 2.0 16v one and to be honest it was a bit pedestrian so the Corrado would be well behind in the 0-60 dash without a shadow of a doubt. I reckon the Lux would stand up quite well to the 93 turbo.

the thing is my govener owning the 9-3 saab turbo 03 reg is a bit of a big headed SON OF A B!£(H and i am dying to smoke the sucker, as eversince i bought this car his words were " You are totally mad it`s a vw and it`s as old as the hills" i am prepared to take one for the guys but not this time I MUST BEAT HIM........i am not normally incredably competetive but this is one i cant loose.........

Huh???

The 944 has never been a good drag car (but then I don't suppose the Saab and Corrado are either), but if you need to test eachother out there is a run what you brung day tomorrow in Devon:

Make sure you ave removed all your tools, jack and spare tyre from under your boot carpet and your petrol tank is only a 1/4 full - it all helps [;)]

Yes but that's the beauty of the 944. People who don't really understand cars but pretend they do will always think this and I like that. Like I said before, it keeps their greasy mits off them. The guys got a Vauxhaul Vectra with a Saab badge on it for crying out loud so how can he have the gall to call a 944 a VW - not that that would be a particularly slanderous slur!! If he was a real car enthusiast that likes his Saabs and knew his stuff then he would have got an '80's 900 turbo - the last of the proper Saabs.

yep, bloody nice cars those old ones. I just bought a '86 944 turbo, but my previous car was an '88 Saab 900 Turbo. It's not as quick as the 944 Turbo but it's really easy to up the boost on the older saabs and I had the torque figure for mine up there pretty well - it will do 0-60 in 7.5 which is not bad for a FWD car.

The newer 1.8t are actually low pressure turbos though, IIRC and are not intercooled. not particularly quick but the full pressure ones are actually pretty pokey, even if they are Vauxhalls underneath.
