Your Region Needs You

You may have seen that the Club will be running The Cotswold Rally on Sunday May 14th. As it's a new national event taking place in our Region, we've been asked to help out with the not insignificant amount of organisation and administration that goes into making it a successful event. Already, The Cotswold Rally Event Team (TCRET) has planned and tested the route (a huge thanks to James, Brian and Graham), chosen the destination venue and attended event planning meetings. Now we're looking for around 15 volunteers to join the Event Team to help out with various marshalling duties on the day. These will generally be required as follows:

1. At the starting point at Cornbury House;
2. Around the route (mobile and static);
3. At the destination at Upton House.

So far, the following members have let us know they're able to help out on the day:

None of the original Organising Team are involved.

I must note my disappointment that, even though Geoff Ives and his original team offered to run this event some time time ago, Geoff's offer was rejected.

Geoff's experience in undertaking this event is second to none; as many who have attended and loved the event in the past will testify. I might also note that Geoff and his team were commissioned by Gaydon Motor Heritage Centre to run rallies on their behalf. All of this was successfully delivered without the need of an acronym. I would further note that the (unnamed) team structure was sufficiently robust and experienced to deliver one of the events despite Geoff being in hospital due to an accident the previous day.

I was pleased to assist in a fair number of Geoff's rallies and have chronicled these events in Porsche Post and video on more occasions than I can remember. I won't be attending this one as I consider the rejection of Geoff's original offer and the subsequent running of the event to be underhanded and insulting.

Posts will be deleted, without notice, in accordance with which particular rule pertaining to this forum? I was personally involved, as part of the Board, in drafting and refining the majority of these rules as Communication Director. Or have these also been cast aside with other historic works undertaken by past Club officials and members?

For your information. The Cotswold Rally has always been a National Event. The Region came out of the event not the other way round.
The first 4 Cotswold Rally' events were organised under the 'Heritage Group' banner as were the Manx Tours.

Posting as Chairman, I wish to make it very clear that the Board and the Clubhouse team unanimously took the view that it was right and proper for the current Regional Organisers of the Cotswold Region to be invited to host this event which is based in their Region. That they have agreed to do so and have invested their time into this project with enthusiasm and professionalism is something that should be applauded.

Geoff, John, if you have anything else constructive to add then please PM me.

This thread is seeking additional volunteers to help make this a special event, one that has already generated huge interest; let's keep it on topic please.

On behalf of the admin team can I remind you that it's against forum moderator policy to delete posts in threads unless it's been agreed?

Deleting material on the forum removes the posts permanently, which leaves no trail if needed in the future. It's policy to move them to the recycle bin, where they can be recovered if necessary, not to use the "delete permanently" option.

I'm sure that's what you already do, but worth a reminder if you're threatening to remove people's posts. []

Paul, According to Moderating the Porsche Club GB Forum... "The task of the Moderator is simple: to ensure that the various posts made in your particular forum (section) are compatible with the rules and the spirit of the Forum. YOU are the sole judge of what is and what is not acceptable in the forum you are moderating (club members who think their posts have been unfairly or unnecessarily moderated have a complain mechanism so there is someone moderating the moderators!!)."

The posts were way off topic and offensive to us hence the post. Sorry, but we're not prepared to waste further time discussing this.

Please don't go off on one at the admins for doing their job: they are volunteers just as you are!

I assume you are aware that it is Club policy not to delete any posts on the forum, and admin would appreciate it if you adhered to the same rules as all other moderators. What I said was that you need to use the "recycle bin" option instead, where they are permanently archived in the event of an appeal, or for the Club officials to refer to if necessary.

I wasn't suggesting you don't have the right to moderate a forum you've been assigned to moderate. Merely reminding you that there is a policy in place when removing posts that breach the forum rules, particularly when it's a grey area such as your own interpretation of the subjective rule you quote.

If you do not use the correct procedure when moderating the forum it potentially puts the Club in a very dangerous position as we can't access posts that have been removed. If you think that this is a waste of time, and not worth discussing, then please just follow the required procedure and there's no issue. If there's anything you're not sure about then please speak to any of the admin team before pushing any buttons! Thanks []

We'd just like to say a huge thanks to all those who helped out as marshals on Sunday, and in the pre-event planning. From the comments we've seen and heard, the event was a huge success. This is in no small part due to everyone who kindly gave up their time to ensure their fellow members had a stonking day out. We'd also like to thank the Cornbury House team who put in so much effort. And last but not least, we'd like to thank all those who took part, drove our route, and made it a real pleasure for everyone concerned. Our sincere thanks to you. We look forward to seeing you all next year.
