Hey Folks,
In all the excitement of the announcement of 60th Anniversary events (postponed from 2021) - we are interested to hear your money-no-object ideas for a BIG event!

What kind of event would entise you in?
One-day? Two-day? Static show? Runs/Rally?
What about a mix of an organised run, with a car meet at the end?
What about the option to incorporate a tour of our fantastic country - NC500/Skye/EC250/SW300?
Are we heading on track at Knockhill?
Group Flashmob?
Club Campfire?

All Important - FOOD!!
BBQ?
Fine Dining Dinner?
Pizza and Waffles?
Cheese party?
Food masterclasses?
Wine/Whisky/Beer/Gin/Cocktail masterclasses?
Coffee Bar?
Prosecco bar?

What about entertainment?
Bands/DJ's/Acts?
Food/Drink demo's?
Ceilidh night?
Cinema (indoor/outdoor) - old skool car films obviously! ?
Highland Games? (including a haggis toss?)
Detailing Displays?
Competitions - trackday experiences/detailing vouchers/overnight stays?

Location, Location, Location - Scotland is a big place - where would you (not) be willing to travel too?
Perthshire? Glasgow? Borders? Highland? Aberdeenshire?
Are we meeting at a castle?
A field with highland coos?
Museums/Showrooms?
Porsches on the Beach?

Who is on your Guestlist?
Famous Drivers?
Porsche superstars?
Herbie?
Partick Dempsey?

How much club presence would you like?
The Full 9 yards - Marquees, Flags, Banners, goodiebags, red carpet.
Staff/board members/Officials
Club shop?
Club 356?
maybe some archive displays?
Interaction with our OPC's/Specialists/Car Detailers?

And lastly... who would be interested in volunteering for any major events in the future?

Thanks,

Caitlin

There used to be regular WOTY's organised by Tony Flint a former Events Manager of PCGB, held at Dunkeld House as a base for drives all over Scotland including a lunch at Oban. I believe he also organised Culzean Classics.
I think you should be looking at a long weekend meeting with everything thrown in for the members to do.
Good Luck.

Hi Caitlin / George ...

I assume that this would be a combined R2 - R1 event, significant numbers even with a modest turn out hence location - location - location first ? I`d travel anywhere - volunteer for the right event :p

For me, it`d be all about the driving (road & track) - technical presentations by those involved in design, execution and competition - simple / informal dining. A Ceilidh with ... The Chair / Saltfish 40 wouldn`t go amiss either :ROFLMAO:

Guests

Dario & Marino Franchitti / Jimmy McRae / David Coulthard / Richard Tuthill / Carlton Kirby (Dakar - Le Mans - Cycling commentator) / Reps and samples from the Black Isle Brewery ... [:)]

This is why we ask! Thanks Andrew and Robin.
I think we could definitely procure some good ales, if you guys provide the great company! :D

I like the sound of haggis tossing...into the nearest Loch[:D] We're going through a similar process for our delayed 60th SW event although Michelle at HQ seems to have the reins.

Very happy to have Michelle co-ordinating the 60th anniversary event here is Scotland too.

Be sure to reach out to her to get your suggestions noted. I think we could have a theme...

Haggis Toss.
Cornish Pasty Toss?

A highlight of Dunkeld House was they laid on a Hillclimb ending in a stables courtyard. Your brakes had to be good! Health and safety probably wouldn't permit nowadays.

Remember those days well at Dunkeld the GM was Dick Beech a real enthusiast ...have a few cd,s of the events way back then as well as some Knockhill events ,my lasting memory was Ian Griffiths arriving late and achieved the best time ,one hand on the wheel and the other with a cigarette in his hand ..think it was in his Yellow 964 Speedster now in the ownership of Sean Grant .

Another old fogey here who attended many of Tony Flints memorable Porsche weekends including the WOTY at Dunkeld house, though my memory of that was while dressed for dinner, carrying out a temporary repair to a guests 911 Targa on which the passenger window refused to close...A lump of wood did the trick.
Yeah Tony sure took us to many interesting places, like driving up the single track roads of the Scottish West Coast rather rapidly in the days before speed cameras, with Tony in the lead, long before it was identified as the NC500.. (-:
I have enjoyed views of the bins from our various rooms on Tony`s weekends in many nice hotels, though on occasion I also enjoyed some of the best rooms too... Happy days..(-:
Sorry Catlin I drifted off as is the wont of an old chap... (-:
As best I can remember the English folk had to drive through much more traffic and thus preferred if the usual holiday weekends and school break times could be avoided. Any hotel recommendations from back then could be well out of date, though in a good location for drive outs and or walks. Folk coming up from down South may have driven enough.. Highland games such as welly whanging and the like were fun if there were a bunch of "kids" from a variety of age groups to be entertained..? There was archery at Dunkeld and 4x4 test track driving, though perhaps not at the WOTY but a later weekend.. ? brain fade..Sigh!
I guess there may be More Porsche owners than there were in the days of only air cooled 911`s, and I note that it seems that even meetings for coffee may require to be booked on occasion in advance these days, a whole different and more complex set of circumstances for organisers than in times past...

Wishing you the best in your endeavours.
