We have a new 987S - now around 300 miles and have noticed something. When you turn into a driveway for example and there is not a smooth transition between road and drive - such as a slightly raised kerb, there is a slight 'thunk' from the suspension as if something may be loose. Any other time (including bends) - on rough roads / over bumps its absolutely fine. If you do this slowly there is no 'noise'. I experienced something similar in our BMW but it seems more pronounced in the Box.

Your views would be apprciated.

I struggled for a while with this equation... Nay bother now, t'internet sorted me...

1.776425623 ? Carol Vorderman.com solved it...

Ok, booked in for Monday. Upon further analysis it sounds less like the suspension itself but like a clonk from under the floor around the passenger side footwell / seat area. It sound a bit like the noise you would make if you hit the underside lightly with a hammer. Whats under there, anyone have any ideas?
Cheers, Harry

Update
Got a call from OPC....."You'll never guess what sir! It was the passenger door catch making the noise"..... "Are you sure I ask"..."Yes, positive sir"...Pick up car - the service man even points out the offending part in the showroom (loose apparently), i say " I'll just give it a try to make sure if you don't mind" - You see it makes the 'clang' noise as you pull onto the forecourt of the dealer..."Yes, ofcourse sir, please do". Up the road, turn around, pull onto forcourt....."CLANG"....do it again as I can't believe my ears...."CLANG". Go back to see the service guy - but have to wait cos' hes's taking a bollocking from another satisfied customer. Ask to see dealer principle, wait 30mins cos' "he's in a meeting". Explain situation - and even take him out to demonstrate noise.......and respectfully ask for our money back! He says NO. He agrees if they don't fix it tomorrow then he will give us our money back, although his lips were moving at the time!!!!
Julian, you got any advice??????

Don't they have three attempts then your entitled to your money back.. or something along those lines..

Update
They tried all day Tuesday to rectify the fault. Service manager said "...Have to be honest Sir, we don't know what it is"
Have accepted a full refund.
Have to say that the OPC have been good with the process - being honest, the dealer principle kept his word of a refund if not fixed.
The last few days have been mighty stressfull though.

My 986 did something similar when it was new.

A single tap sound, as if someone tapped a metal box once with a pin hammer.

I sort of traced it to the seat belt unit. I think that there is a ball bearing or flap inside that creates the inertia locking facility.
I could not re-create the problem with the same regularity as you so did not take it back. Unless the OPC fixed it without saying anything during the service, it has either fixed itself or I have got used to it. So much so that until reading this thread had completely forgotten about it.

Doesn't sound like the same thing Chris. You certainly couldn't 'forget about' the noise my car was making. It was definately something under the car because they stripped it down inc. the wheel arch liners and it did not do it - but after it was re-assembled back it came.

Am I reading this correct the dealer took back the car as you rejected it as not fit for the purpose bought .If so I think you are inded a lucky man ,is he getting you a replacement if so should we look out for your old car appearing on the dealers forecourt .

Yes, he took back the car, I have to say the dealer principle was brilliant. I do not consider myself lucky but appreciative of an understanding, honest dealer. In fact I consider myself unlucky by getting a car with a fault as the car was absolutely brilliant (bar the fault) and something I had dreamt of owning for as long as I can remember.
I am deciding at present whether to give the marque another chance and order another.

Hi Harry
Sorry to hear that you had such bad luck with your new car, but good to hear that it was resolved so quickly and efficiently. I also rejected my new 987S last year following a problem, and was also allowed a full refund.
I used this against a 997S and have been thrilled with the new car - my advide would be to give Porsche another go - the fact that my dealer was so good about it all gave me confidence to stick with the marque (and lets face it, all other cars aren't Porsches are they?). Go on give it another try - the 987 is a fantastic car and you'll only wish you'd bought one every time you see one out on the road, with that fantastic flat 6 wail screaming by![:D]
Good luck!
Rob

Hmmm..maybe you should look out for it. If you want the details of the car / OPC I will share them but not openly here. Email me if you wish to check.

Rob, thanks for your support and words of encouragment, i'm still deciding what to do. Every time I see a Porsche I feel sick and want one badly.
