Hi people,
Am just about to make my final installment on a 2000 Boxster S, with 19k mile in great condtion apart form a few niggles. I have pushed my budget to the limit and now in a bit of a fix, should I get a specialist full inspection cost max of £300 or as the dealer recommends, a warranty of £950 for a year which covers near to everything? Car sound great no funny noises, interior in good nic apart from side of the sport seat (not waxed, i guess). Please help?

This is very much in my humble opinion.

I would not touch an extended warranty.

They are no different to the sort of schemes that Dixons and Curries try to sell you - a good little earner for OPC's. As an insurance policy £950 is a very expensive premium and the numbers of reported major failures - particularly on post 2.5 models - is very low.

If the car is coming from an OPC and is fully serviced it should be kosher but I would probably get the inspection just in case.

JCB..

i have a 2000 2.7 and after much thought,I didn't bother renewing the warrenty when it ran out,

to be honest now it's over three years old i won't be taking it back to a d(st)ealer for servicing.

Helen now your car is over 3 years of age why not negotiate a reduced labour rate ph for servicing from you K N supplying OPC.

That way you keep the residual up, get a fairer priced service deal and in the event of some mechanical failure a possible goodwill gesture from PCGB.

OPC Reading for example have a reduced labour rate for the older Porsche as they don't want to lose there customers to so called Specialists ...... Worth sending a few emails off to OPC's and get a quote back before you jump ship IMO [&:]

so far i've never found a OPC who answeres e-mails or even the bl00dy phone.
i always seem to have to visit the show room and make a nausence of myself in order to get an answer to the simplest question.

eg, to get the price for mud flaps, rock guard, roof rails and a boot liner, for my new car, took me a 2 hour visit to the OPC. not to mention the fact they want to charge me over 5 hour labour for fitting them!!![][][]

Helen surely you could have negotiated FOC fitting for the above stuff, which is going to look really odd on your Boxster :ROFLMAO: as compensation for jerking you around refs your original order for a proper Porsche :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ......

to be honest if they don't deliver the cayenne on time then im cancelling, and giving up the thought of buying a new Porsche.

i could buy a nice second hand Porker with the money they have been holding as a deposit. im feeling very peeved by the whole thing.

Have you asked to see the dealer principle? If not why not :ROFLMAO: Your dealer sounds like a right banker to me

as a fellow 'new owner' i would recommend the RAC inspection, especially for 'private' sales. It costs £250, but the guy who did mine took nearly 3 hours and went over the thing with the preverbial fine tooth comb.
With a car worth 20k+ and potentially very expensive repair bills £250 seemed reasonable to me..
I guess if you are buying from a porsche dealership the need may (should!!) not be so much. But from anywhere else........well its your call at the end of the day....

i thought a warrenty was included with all second hand cars from a OPC???
