Zeintop

I am thinking of buying my first Boxster and like the look of the Zeintop, which is offered by a South African company called Zeintec. It fits the Boxster as a hard top which looks like a Cayman. http://www.zeintec.com/news?id=12
Does anyone have any expereince of this?
It has to be ordered from SA and shipped over as a kit to be painted.

Anthony, I don't get it, why buy a Boxster, a roadster, then spend another £4k+ on making it look like a Cayman, a coupe? Why don't you buy your first Cayman instead? I am sure others will agree that the soft-top has never been a problem in any weather, and I can take it down in 12s anytime I feel like it! The joy of a sunny winter day or a hot summer sun at the press of a button... depending on the time of year of course!

I agree, with the weather we've had over the last couple of years I'm more likely to take the top down in winter than summer.

Why would you buy a Zeitopp when you can buy used Porsche hardtops for under £1k. A hardtop does make the car quieter and more airy in the winter months (big rear window) and easier to reverse, but.. Its a big lump to store during the better months (even worse for a Zeintop) Its a 2 man job to fit and remove, so when you do get a break in the winter weather its a real faff to get a few hours of top down motoring. I personally think the Zeintop looks very aftermaket - it spoils the Boxster look and isn't close enough to a Cayman to convince anyone, never mind those in the know. We all have our own preferences and ideas though [;)]

i gave the zeintop some thought but was put off because: - looks like i am trying to make a boxster a cayman (esp if 986 as the cayman never looked like that model) - you have to take off the boot lid and some other bits to fit it - they'll inevitably get damaged lying around and i bet you never get them back on properly - it looks like a real pita to put on and off - its massively expensive i think you can get them from Europe now? anyway, i went for the original one because its smaller, looks easier to take on and off, i wanted extra security, its really for summer use (!) if you have a 986 i'd go for one on ebay - seen them for 500 quid or so so you get to keep the extra cash! i have only seen one 987 top for sale and it went for a little under what my new one is costing (and was the wrong colour) hence my decision to get a new one....

Try D. Moris. They are in France. With a typically bad website, but if you persevere you will find a picture in the French section under 'hardtops' they make a good looking and well manufactured top. http://www.d-moris-equipments.com. You can drive down and have it fitted.

The joy of a sunny winter day or a hot summer sun at the press of a button... depending on the time of year of course! andrew what country do you live in cos we aint seen none for years[:D]

The D Morris hardtop looks really good. From looking at the Boxsta forum the Zeintop does seem to have a few teething problems.

Don't do it! Boxsters are beautiful as they are. If you must have a hard top get the Porsche OE hard top. That Zeintop thing won't make your car look like a Cayman, It will make your car look like a seriously buggered up Boxster. Jerry 986S Arctic Silver

I've seen a 986 with the Zeintop and been driven in it round rockingham at speed. The fit an finish is very good and there are no buzzes or rattles once the initial first fitting has been carried out. As to why you may want one....the rear visibility is much better than the boxster , it keeps the hood in good condition during the winter , allows for a bigger load area to be used and does look deceptively like a cayman when fitted. The Morris top looks too much like a standard porsche top to even bother about. Personally I dont have the cash to afford both a cayman and a boxster , but I prefer the cayman with the roof and the boxster with the roof down. 4k to own both styles seems a bargain , a cayman for winter and boxster for summer. Forgetting the "trying to look like a cayman" jibe , I think this is the best looking hard top I've ever seen for a convertible since the triumph stag. The 997 hard top looks ungainly , the OEM boxster top just spoils the lines. If you really want the car to look like a cayman, a change of front and rear bumpers, spoiler and side vents is all thats needed. Just remember that the cayman was an evolution of the boxster design..not the other way round !

don't get me wrong - nothing wrong with the cayman, wasn't meant to be a jibe! personally though i don't like it hence my comment, i should have been clearer, apologies. the zeintop does look well made. if you do like the cayman look (and assuming you have somewhere to keep the top in summer and the bits of boxster in winter) then go for it.

I agree that if you are buying a 987 and have the cash for the Zeintop then it's worth it. I would do it if I had those things. I love the Boxster but in the winter (from Dec onwards) there is not much point in having the soft top 'ready' to lower as the weather sucks. I have a 986 with standard hard top in the winter, haven't seen one day where I would have put the roof down had I not had the hard top on. Having a Cayman in the winter and a Boxster in the summer seems like the perfect choice. Why have one of the other when you can have both?

ORIGINAL: gdavison FWIW - [:D] Today is a roof down day
Third day topless this week for me - in fact it stayed down all day on Monday. Modern cars do have heaters and heated seats - i've paid for them so might as well use them [:D]

Maybe where you are! However I don't drop my roof just because the sun is out, I travel all over the world and spend time in places where a roof down is appropriate. I have always found it a little silly when I see people with their roof down when it's cold, just because the sun happens to be shinning. I suppose it's each to their own.

Three successive days with temps at 12-13'C in this country has to be top down - we don't too many opportunities here [&:]
