Difficulty filling up... vent blocked??

Have noticed over the last few months, that when filling up, the pump keeps cutting out due to fuel splashing back unless I fill up really slowly. It's always done it a bit, but never as bad as recently. Then at the weekend, on removing the filler cap when empty, I heard an air "sucking" noise with air going into the tank past the little flap 2 or 3 inches into the filler pipe.

Does this mean I've got a blocked breather pipe? Does the 996 have a breather pipe or vent? Does anyone know how to check it?

Thanks...

You have a 710 problem - normally suffered by lady drivers[;)] Further update this evening!
eh?

Sorry had to get home - further 710
update hereunder:-

A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred- ten.

We all looked at each other and another customer asked, 'What is a seven-hundred- ten?'
She replied, 'You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I have lost it and need a new one..'

She replied that she did not know exactly what it was, but this piece had always been there.

The mechanic gave her a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like.

She drew a circle and in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to a car just like hers which had its hood up and asked 'is there a 710 on this car?'.

She pointed and said, 'Of course, its right there.' the mechanic fainted

Do you know what a 710 is?

OIL - upside down[;)]

Sorry - I hope someone has a solution for you

Had the same problem on my Cayman, had to take a technician to the filling station before the dealership would believe it, quite a rare fault but taking 5 10 minutes to fill a tank is a pain.

It was something to do with a vent valve and was fixed in about an hour under warranty, apparently not easy, if the description of the job was correct it's arch liner out and reach over the top of the tank.

Lol, love the OIL story....

Richard, I have this problem as well, but I didn't think it was a problem until this thread. ;-) I just thought it was anoying...

Could you please send me the bulletin as well?

Cheers

When mine first started it was an intermittent thing but soon developed into a major pain whenever I was filling up, it could take up to 10 minutes to fill, gets embarrassing when other cars move off to another pump because you're there so long.

Can you please send me the bulletin too, Mine was fixed and no problem since but I'd like to see the Porsche bulletin.
