Central locking problem

Seen a few threads about this but mine has finally given up the ghost!

Red light flashes on dash ok still, key fob (both) no longer open door, changed batteries in both, still nothing. Can open manually with key but need to get key in before alarm goes nuts. Red light on lock/passenger side door needs pressing to unlock passenger door.

Any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem - I will be watching this post with great interest ! My keys work but nothing happens.

Sounds like your remotes have given up the ghost. You could try restarting the processor in the remote, by inserting the battery upside down (reverse polarity) for 2-3 seconds, and then putting it back in the right way up.

The LED on the remote should flash rapidly when you press and hold the button. If it stays on solid, it is definitely toast.

Edit: Here are another couple of things you can try in desperation!

1) Unlock the car door and while the key is still in the door, press the lock/unlock button.

2) Switch on the ignition. 
Switch off the ignition. 
Remove the key and press the remote lock/unlock button within 6 seconds.
 
Thanks,tried the upside down battery trick, nothing [:(] red light on key is fine, flashes as normal, just no response from car!

Also just tried the other and still nothing.

It's both keys so would it be remote in car or device, dont know the terms sorry. [:D]
 
The problem will most likely be the keyhead remotes. Both of them. They do have a nasty habit of going tit$ up for no apparent reason.
 
How do i go about sorting this out then Richard, do i need to go to main dealer and obtain new keyheads?
 
An OPC or a good indy should be able to sort you out. New key heads are about £90 +VAT, plus they may charge for programming, depending on who you go to.
 
Passenger side door no longer locks on central locking! Even with key in drivers side!

Can't be the key heads can it? Must be something to do with the central locking control unit in the car?
 
More likely the door lock assembly. Is it locking and then immediately unlocking with a double-beep from the alarm horn? Those are the typical symptoms.
 
Richard, there isn't a fuse by any chance for this is there that may have gone? Thinking of the cheaper solution [:D]
 
I'm sorry to say it won't be that simple. There is only one fuse in the panel for the alarm unit, and if it blows, the car won't start. There is a small fuse on the alarm module itself (under the passemger seat) and I guess you could check that, just in case it is causing the remote problems.

The passenger door locking then unlocking is caused by a broken microswitch inside the door lock assembly. Unfortunately, you have to buy the whole lock, at about £85 iirc. I have heard of people stripping the lock down and fitting an alternative switch though.

As a temporary measure, use the emergency locking procedure. Turn the key in the door to the lock position and back 3 times in quick succession.
 
There was a picture somewhwere and like Richard said it was just a microswitch availible for peanuts from cpc or maplins etc.
