997.2 Outdoor Weatherproof Car Cover?

Hi all, I recently bought a 997.2 S in white. Unfortunately my 911 needs to live outside on my drive and white certainly collects the outfall from living a life of week days on the drive and weekends driving around.. As the wetter and colder months start, I was thinking of a car cover (to be used on a just cleaned car and not taken on and off regularly).

I have done some research and many are not a fan of car covers (abrasion etc)

Does anyone have thoughts/experience of using an outdoor cover as a more 'winter storage' option?

Best

Simon

Hi nice car,

Like you I did my research and was sceptical about buying a car cover but decided to buy one. Like yours my car sits outside and I recently bought a Hamilton Classic Moltex Outdoor Car Cover and I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised how it keeps the car clean and dry even through all that wet weather we had a few weeks ago. I haven't noticed and scratches on the paint work. If you want you can come and visit and look at the car cover before making a decision. If you not too far away I live in Aylesbury.

good luck
Anthony

hi.
I have a 997.2 in base white which lives outdoors for the past 3 years and can recommended the covercraft weathershield outdoor cover.
It has managed to deal with the British whether quite well.

Thanks
Johnny

Hi Anthony, Johnny - thank you for quick replies!! I will take a look at both of those.. I was thinking to only put the cover on a clean car. My 'new' 997.2 needs a polish and will be getting a Ceramic coating applied. All of my cars have lived outside and been fine without a cover.. But somehow the white colour and the special status of the 997 is making me want to care for it more!

Side Q - have either of you tweaked your exhausts? I searched for a PSE car, but still think it could be a little more 'special'

Hi
I've always stored my 911 outside and use porsche’s Own brand covers (most recent one seems improved product)
people have different views about trapping moisture but I cover the car with two bedsheets and put the cover over -with no ill effects over last 8 years !
i have always washed the car each time before covering and drive dry but my S over 2 years, GTS over 5 and now GT3 are immaculate -so there’s my proof to prove all the internet doubters wrong !

Hi - thank you.. quite a few options for car covers! and supportive comments for use..

were you tempted to get an indoor one as a base layer and then an outdoor one over the top? Or is this overkill?

I think that would make the potential for damage greater as the indoor one would slip around under the outdoor one. The outdoor ones are cut to be a snug fit and the contact points are designed to avoid any rubbing/movement.
My one was actually developed and fitted on the MD's car as he had a 997 turbo at the time!

Exercise caution! I bought an OEM tailored porsche cover. The car was left for a week covered while there was a bit of wind.
to my dismay when I removed the cover there is marring in various areas (mainly top of wings and rears) that only machine polishing will remove.
ive now bought a peach skin indoor cover to go on the car before external cover!

im now £400 light with two covers and in need of machine polishing?

rgds, Lee.

Ouch! I will be careful and test.. mine needs a polish actually as there are some swirls (harder to see in white paint). Thank you

Hi

That's excactly what I do with my 911 stored outside - Porsche’s Own brand covers. Indoor cover on first to stop abrasion etc then outdoor cover over the top. Seems to work well for me
