Just changing the coolant caps to the uprated versions

Not sure that this will help you, I had new caps fitted last year but I’ve no idea whether they were uprated or not, the tanks were not changed.

Hi Guys

Just changing the coolant caps to the uprated versions and the tank cap seems damn hard to get on and off should I have changed the tank as well? or are you ok to just change the cap??

Kind Regards

Nick

Cheers Andy

Just spoke with the Dealer Parts Dept to make sure they have given me the correct part and yes they have, was yours hard to screw on Andy?? mines a 987.1

Kind Regards

Nick

Nick,

Just to point out that there are two coolant caps: one for the filler-point in the boot area and another for the expansion tank itself under the engine cover, and I think that they're different. Have you replaced both or has the Dealer given you the the wrong one? I'd compare the new cap with the old one to ensure that they're the same.

Jeff

Edit: I've had a look at the PET for your 987.1 which shows different part numbers for the caps:

Coolant End Cap: 987 106 044 00

Expansion Tank Cap: 996 106 447 04 (or 01?)

The part number should be on the cap.

Hi Jeff

Definitely the same as the parts catalogue number, previous cap number end 03 new one ends in 04, old one fits a dream new one is tight, parts guy matched it to my chassis number to so im mystified really, I even put a drop of oil on the threads to help get it on.

Purchased both caps

I have noticed that at some point the coolant has overflowed from the tank as there are white deposits and drip marks around the threads of the tank and on the sides, the cap I have from Porsche is 996 106 447 04 previous cap number is 996 106 447 03 ---- so Im mystified

Similar but with existing cap … 981 CS … extremely `hard` to move - something had `broken` on the inside / threaded section of the cap. Replaced under warranty.

The `issue` was very difficult to spot ... is yours 100% intact ?

Hi Guys

It seems that the Coolant Expansion Tank Cap was upgraded in 2010 for the Cayman S Sport to the current 996.106.447.04 Cap, but talking with the Parts guy at Wolverhampton who I have to say was superb and went the extra mile for me, he told me that the expansion tank was also superseded at about the same time which now makes sense why the 04 cap doesn't fit the original expansion tank, and why the 03 cap isn't shown in the Cayman Parts Catalogue....so I will be changing the expansion tank at some point, but for now Im staying with the original cap......incredible.... the parts chap really had to do some work to find this out......crazy this should all be to hand for them at a key stroke

Kind Regards

Nick

Similar to their personal records - admin system … I have had / still am having issues with them holding the correct and same address across all their departments !
