My S2,s at Promax at the moment having new nearside wishbone fitted which did have some play but the new one has made no difference to a knock i have also everything has either been renewed or inspected they now feel it could be something behind the dash but without having it out its difficult to say but they are reluctant to start ripping the dash out because of the time involved .So whats behind there anything that could knock not rattle and is only evident on rough roads its driving me mad help please
Bob

Not much behind the dash on the passenger side. Just got the board with the cage that holds the ecu probably some kind of alarm down in there swell. Try pulling the carpet back ( it attaches to the foot board with Velcro ) and removing the foot board and then look behind and make sure everything is secure in there

I wont get my car back until tomorrow but if they cant find the knock every thing thats suggested here i will try thanks for your help

Interior noises are usually very light and rattle-y. A solid knock is much more likely to be mechanical or suspension-related.

Tell us more about it - when does it happen? Is it loud or quiet? Heavy or light? Does it happen at speed or more slowly? Is it rhythmical or not? Does it happen often? Does it seem to happen with a suspension compression or rebound (i.e. up or down)? Does anything seem to make it worse or better?

Oli.

It happens all the time its between loud and quite but its a a definite knock not a thud or a metallic knock almost like a quite knock on the door not apparent at speed bad on bumpy roads not rhythmical it happens a lot seems worst on rebound nothing seems to change it i heard back from Promax this afternoon and they have covered everything associated i.e. suspension ,steering, power steering ,steering column, engine mounts, exhaust etc.but they seem to think its coming more from the bulkhead area i think i will be picking the car up tomorrow i hope knock free after they have had one more look in the morning .Hope i can get pensioners rates
Thanks Oli

Car back from Promax wallet much lighter and still got the knock but they are pretty sure its between the bulkhead and dash that involves a lot of labour to get in there so when i get some time what with all the events going on i will investigate further Cornbury house barby next might see you there

Sorry for not replying sooner first the knocking noise after getting the car back from promax suggested the knock and it would be something really silly and to be honest it was more of a tap than a knock and they thought it was behind the dash so i removed the instrument cluster to see if i could find anything there were several things it could have been air duct pipe looked to be a poss. as it was
knocking on the body but there were various plugs etc that could have made a similar sound also found the ecu was loose at the back of the foot board under the bonnet i removed the rain cover over the heater motor that had some movement so all tightened i should have checked after each item but i didn't so i cant say i ever found out what was causing it but its gone . The reason i am parting with the car is a health reason which is affecting my mobility and it has made getting out of the car extremely difficult and it wont go away so thats why she has to go .If you want to know anymore about the car or are interested in buying please contact Mark at www.themodernclassiccarco.com who will help you sorry this is a bit garbled Best wishes Bob
