Hi all,
i have a 2003 911 targa and the glass roof and glass hatch door are always creaking, i guess its the glass on rubber seals.
can anyone suggest any cures?

On the mercedes forum folk recommend Gummi Pflege but I guess any 'dry' lubricant would do. I understand that WD40 etc is a real no-no as it attracts the dirt. Thanks for the reminder - I need to get some for my pano roof!

Silicon would be recommended. Anything with a petroleum base will eventually degrade natural rubber.

Seconded about petroleum based products. In my experience I also find silicone spray more effective than Gummi Pledge at curing rattles and squeaks.

In my Targa most of these seem to come from the hatchback area - I spray both the rubber seal and the inside of the hatch which contacts the rubber.

Also worth checking the hatchback locking mechanism isn't rattling around - you access it by pulling the carpeted section of trim at the back of the car towards you. Behind that it will either be padded and solid or not and probably rattly.

Finally, I read on a forum somewhere about putting velcro patches in the corners of the roof frame to stop rattles and creaks. While doing this in mine stopped the rattles completely, it caused a water leak! Probably due to increasing the space between the glass and rubber seals. It goes without saying I swiftly removed the velcro!

9 out of 10 times whenever your 996 Targa starts creaking the first thing to do is clean out all the dirt from under all the rubbers and nooks and crannies that are in contact with the glass and metal after that use the Porsche rubber lubricant they use when servicing the car on all the contact points.

Stage 2 then try the Teflon tape fix (not velcro it's to thick)
