How often does the car need servicing?

I brought my first every cayman last year and it had just been service, but I have only done 2,000 miles in a year so I am seeing how often I have to service it?

Any one one help me please.....

I'm in the same boat as you, only doing about 2k miles per year. I know that Porsche says we can have service every 2 years or 20,000 miles. I am OK with the two year bit, but not the 20,000 mile bit. Yes, synthetic oils are wonderful, but I would still change after 10,000 miles if I was using the car more heavily than I do. As it is, a two year service interval fits in neatly with the need to change the brake fluid.

I do the occasional track day (three half days per year) and am happy that this use is consistent with a two year/4000 mile oil change. If I was tracking the car more often I would look at more frequent oil and brake fluid changes.

I'm coming up to owning my Cayman for a year. Leaving the oil for 20,000 miles or 2 years makes me very nervous. I've just ordered what I need to change the oil and filter myself. A touch over £80 for 8 litres of Mobil Super 3000 X1 5W-40, filter, filter wrench, filter ring and sump plug crush washer.

The other thing to consider is resale value in the future. Some future buyers won't touch cars that have gone 2 years / 20,000 miles between oil changes.

I'm not technical enough to know if changing the oil each year, regardless of mileage, is overkill or not, but I'd rather be on the safe side for such a relatively small cost.

Cheers,

Bryan

I would say that would be a very, very small number of buyers. To the vast majority of people the car will have followed the Porsche service interval, and if the book is fully stamped to prove it then all is good. Most people won't be thrashing their cars day in day out and do lots of track work that might degrade the oil too much. GT cars will be the obvious exception but they may have a different service interval. A regularly tracked car will show other signs of use too that would probably put off buyers e.g. more wear to the seats, steering wheel, wheels etc.

We're talking modern engines and modern oil. A few thousand miles a year in a road car under normal circumstances will be absolutely fine. Changing oil more often is just wasting your money.
