Would you do it?

There is a 2.5 here On this Page that i could almost swap for my cooper, good idea or not?

Desperation of wanting a porsche now kicking in...

Jeff

A grand idea! Get on the ladder. 2.5 is fine and the engine sounds great even though you're not going *that* fast, it's fast enough for Brit roads. [:D]

I can totally recommend the Porsche following the VX220!! I wouldn't go back! Although I enjoyed being sideways quite often in my VX, the Boxster feels so much better put together, sounds fabulous & I have no hesitation in driving it when it's raining!!

Personally I'm not a fan of the baboon's bottom red leather interior!
Perhaps it's because I can't get shoes to match it![:D]

i would change now-you will be very happy[:D]
i tried the cooper s last yr and though fun ,it was no comparison to the porsche for experience.obviously try for the 2.7 if you can stretch but the 2.5 is also great fun

No.
Desperation will lead you to buy the wrong car[&:]

Just hang on Jeff 'cos winter is coming and you will find a 2.7 for the right money and the Cooper will not be so affected by the winter on price.

Plus, IMHO, you may well be dissapointed, performance wise, after a Cooper S.

If you search on autotrader (just put in Boxster with no parameters) there is a few 2.7,s out there now at not a lot more than that one.

Cheers
Dave

New Mini S 0 to 62 in 7.1s, 140mph.
Same price (Mini+extras)
2004 2.7 Boxter 0 to 62 in 6.4s, 157mph

Your choice!

If I was you I would try to find a 2.7 if you could, even if it requires a small cash input.

It replaced the 2.5 and was launched at the same time as the 3.2'S', incorporating a number of other minor improvements.

The 'S' is a real flyer, but the even the 2.7 feels noticeaby more responsive than the 2.5.

Why does everyone around here write off the 2.5?

They can be had for fantastic prices and come on guys, on British roads who really notices half a second difference?

For want of a (possibly) worthless opinion, there's no harm in buying a 2.5. If they were cr4p like everyone seems to be implying they wouldn't have single handedly saved Porsche would they?

... and looking at the link above, it's the black 997 that draws my eye and brings a small tear to it.

That's GOT to be my next car, although I'd have to wait a little while until they fall into my price bracket!

There's nothing wrong with the 2.5 (we had two).

But each development of the Boxster has been better than the previous, and not just in terms of performance, but the overall feel of the package.

I'd go for a 2.7 over a 2.5, or a 3.2'S' over a 2.7, or a 987 over a 986. We've currently got a 987 3.2'S', but I know the 3.4'S' is yet another step forward, and so it goes on.

IMO, budget permitting, it always makes sense to get the best example of the latest model you can.

I agree with Oliver because that advice follows with most products. Slightly off topic but fairly relevant, I only bought an 8gb ipod nano last month (my first ipod - where have I been?) and they've just announced a whole new generation of ipods to buy this month! []

However, the 2.5 is still a fine drivers car for those who can't afford to go the extra and get a 2.7. It's a great "starter" Boxster for those looking to get into the marque.

Good reading is the above :)

Ideally i would want a 3.2S i just look outside now and it 25 degrees :(
It looks like i will have to wait til next year ...

2.5 : great engine and more then adequate to keep hot hatches and the likes at bay. It has a really smooth revving engine meaning you can revel in drive along at highish revs , and is economical - hence my daily use !. When the sun is shining, the hood is down, and you are crusing at 3-40mph, hearing that sweet revving engine , 2.5 , 2.7, 3.2 .....still a Boxster !

The 2.5 is the slowest Boxster in a straight line but put it on some windy roads and the difference is so small you probably wouldn't notice. Mind you I still would like a new Boxster S.
