Hi folks... OP here []
Thanks for the input, it's nice to see a healthy debate
I've now spent several hours in both standard and +/-10mm options of 718 GTS 4.0 Manual, as well as shorter drives in a PDK 2.5 turbo GTS and a PDK 981 GTS. My findings (personal opinions!) are:
[ul][*]standard suspension 4.0 is great, not too firm and even with it firmed up through Sport/Sport+ it's not too bad on dodgy Dartmoor B-roads at speed, although I feel that firmer setting on the standard car is best left for smooth roads as the car feels a bit out of it's depth with the firmed suspension if the road surface is sketchy. Either way the standard option never bottomed out and in it's Normal setting it never struggled. I did not get to try any significant ramps or road humps though.[*]-10mm (+10mm really!) option is (in my opinion) slightly better on uneven B-roads at speed, as long as it is in Sport/Sport+ firmed setting. It seems to cope better with repeat undulations, hard braking into dips/corners and poor surfaces. In Normal mode the ride is very compliant, a little too much so for fun in my opinion however absolutely fine for those days when you are just mooching along in the sun. I reckon I would drive around in Sport/Sport+ most of the time with the Normal setting left for lazy days. I think that the slightly softer suspension plus the Sport/Sport+ setting might be perfect for this car, unless you rarely hoon it around on uneven and bumpy B-roads.[*]I do not like PDK! I've driven recent 911s, 981s and 718s and other than for track use I prefer using the manual. That has been made even better by the great automatic throttle-blip on downshifts in Sport/Sport+ mode with the manual. I know it's not the same as doing it yourself but I'm not an expert pedaller.[*]I do not like the 2.5 turbo GTS as much as the 4.0. Yes its got more shove most of the time but it does not have the pleasure of the power curve on the NA engine nor the music to go with it. It's an impressive tool for sure but it does not make me want to drive or fall in love, whereas the NA one does, with bells on![*]I give zero hoots about 'stance' and +-10mm makes FA difference really. Both look and handle wonderfully, I doubt most of us would notice either way.[/ul]So what will I do? That's tricky. A bit of me wants the extra firmness of the standard car, for that little extra bit of impossible to measure/achieve performance on track days and for fast smooth roads on the continent. It would likely also help a bit with resale although i'm likely to keep the car long-term. My head says go for the best (to me) overall feel and that is the -10mm option, in Sport/Sport+ of course. Maybe when I'm old I'll appreciate the softer Normal setting too []
