1700 Mile Review 997.2 PDK

ORIGINAL: Senna

Thanks Gary.

Jonathan,
I hear you re BMW drivers.
I had a business meeting on sunday in Purley Surrey and heading back to North London late afternoon on the M25 (sensibly doing 70-80mph much of the time), caught a glimpse of an idiot in my rear view mirror headlights ablaze weaving in and out of what was fairly light traffic at around 100mph. Speeding straight past me in the slow lane (I was in the middle lane) I couldn't help thinking this young guy in his 8 year old BMW 318 is going to kill himself one day.

Turns out I didn't have to wait too long. I was between junctions 24 and 25 and sure enough a few miles up the road I could see a plume of smoke and the bright red glow of of several brake lights.

This moron had lost control, somehow went off into the hard shoulder, into the undergrowth, picked up a small tree, left it on the slow lane and ended up with the car on it's side (drivers door down) with a nice puddle of petrol from his ruptured tank developing quite nicely on the road. At this point several drivers jumped out of their cars in an effort to pull this idiot out of his wrecked car.

My contribution to the accident was a call to the emergency services and police informing them about the accident whilst also mentioning the drivers reckless driving just before he decided to junk his car.

Have to say he was a lucky guy because if I was the only one around I would have thrown a lit match at his car while he was still in it. Cretins like this really irritate the hell out of me. You read so many stories where these morons are often responsible for wiping out whole families (including kids and babies). I don't wish to be mean but I only hope he's popped his clogs or at the very least so badly injured himself he be driving again any time soon.

Why Dont you say what you really mean ? lol

This is my first entry on this board. I have since March a 997.2 PDK with sport chrono. Done about 1000 miles and boy is it quick, much more so than my previous 996 C4S Cab.

My preference is to use the paddles in manual or auto mode as needed, but the real fun is in the sports mode - wow! Sport+ is something else!

The only shadow so far has been brake squeal, and I know its been mentioned on this board before, I would like to ask Senna if has had the same experience on light braking! I have had complete new pads all round on a newer part number than the supplied vehicle, and it is better but not eliminated. I "apparently" need to cover more miles first before the squeal should clear up.

Senna please comment on this if you have any experience and any others.

I experienced for the first time the other night the dynamic cornering lights - another amazing extra!

Nevertheless a great car.

See you in the Alps RobertC!

Welcome Steve, what options did you go for apart from pdk and sport chrono (and your tricky lights!)? Any photos to share with us. Seems most of the Gen 2 cars are pdk's, certainly from this forum anyway.

My spec is as follows:
Aqua Blue
Heated and cooling seats
PCM Sat Nav
Audio Interface
Cornering lights - amazing
PASM
MF Wheel
PDK with sports chrono
Cruise
Telephone
CD Changer
Park assist
19" Carrera Sport wheels
Voice control
Phew! Just frightened myself again!

That's another awesome spec - how do the seats cool for God's sake? Aircon up the nether regions?

That about sums it up!

The seats have minute holes in the leather and cooled air, which can be graduated, is blown through each hole and chills the whole seat down. Good for hot summer days apparently! We'll see I guess! And no I did not spec the car, it was off the shelf so to speak as a stock item with significant discount which is what attracted me, and was looking out for a C2 PDK.

No Cardiff.

When I sort it out I will load up a photo, my sizing is too much for the forum upload. I have read the thread on suggestions but haven't resolved yet

SteveP

...or host the photo elsewhere (like Flickr) and link to it.

Lots of extras on your C2; was it already registered?

I believe the cooling in the seats works by sucking air down through the holes rather than blowing it up! Which is a relief!

Love the Aqua Blue, Steve, BTW, big improvement on Cobalt (which my Gen 1 colour). Do you use the voice control much?

Haven't used voice control yet and the cooling seats not to much yet either, so still lots to learn!

Could have sworn they blew not sucked[;)]

I too love aqua blue but ther again I'm a little biased as my cab is aqua blue (as is Derek Sharps).

Great choice of colour and I get many positive comments about it.

Enjoy your new car.

From their blurb..

For standard seats and comfort seats, optional seat ventilation is available (only in conjunction with heated seats). A slipstream effect is produced by active ventilation of the perforated seat centre and backrest and by passive aeration at the side bolsters. This evaporates perspiration moisture and therefore makes for a comfortable seating environment, even in hot weather. Ventilation intensity can be set to any of three levels and simultaneous ventilation and heating is possible.

Apparently!!![;)] In this case it's ok to say the seat sucks.

Hi Steve,
Congrats on your purchase and enjoy in good health. Wonderful colour and spec!
Regarding brake squeal, can't remember if I mentioned this on the board before but I only ever got it when breaking gently whilst reversing.
Totally weird I know, and whilst I still get it from time to time its not serious enough to bother me. I hoping more mileage on the car will make it go away completely.

Managed to do 2000 miles now so I consider mine more or less (gently) run-in. Every now and again I take it up to 6k RPM (when fully warm) and it frightens the life out of me (in a good way). The Gen 2 PDK is blisteringly quick. I keep having to remind myself to impose restraint all the time (especially in town driving) as this thing can get up to silly speeds in the blink of an eye. Loving every minute of mine and I never did get to post my spec so here goes.

Meteor Grey
Sports Design 19" Wheels
Sports seats (Heated)
PCM Sat Nav
Audio Interface
Bluetooth Telephone Connection (which is at war with my ipone 3G)
PDK + Sports Chrono
Park Assist
Cruise Control
Matts (yes they are extra ££)
Wheel centres (ditto)

Posted a few pics of mine in my first thread.
