1991 Guards Red 944 S2 - 144K

cheers Oil, all good knowledge, thanks for imparting.

The gearbox had DIFF FLANGE SEAL and SWEPCO 201 80/90 GEAR OIL 3.8 Liters on the 14 Mar 2012 so if you say every couple years then looks like i could do with getting it refreshed.

Added to the shopping list [:)]

If the previous owner put Swepco in it then he wasn't shy of spending money on the car - it was an expensive thing to do (needlessly so, IMHO.)

However it's big boast was that it was meant to last the life of the car, so shouldn't need doing again ....

Do you have any experience of the Throttle response cam?

Ive been thinking my throttle has a lotto travel on it and just stumbled on the Throttle response cam which seems in principal a great idea.

As Simon said - not applicable for an S2.

If the throttle seems to have a lot of travel then it's worth making sure that the cable doesn't have any slack in it. But Northway's would probably have picked it up if it did.

If the gearbox oil is relatively fresh, I'd suggest that changing it isn't going to solve your problems. My experience is that S2 and turbo boxes are quieter than the 924S boxes I had. No idea if that's common.

Finding an LSD equipped box won't be easy - most of them are turbo boxes with longer ratios. (longer FD?)
Anyway, apart from on the track, I don't think you need an LSD in an S2. I find mine a bit twitchy coming out of low speed corners on the track, but that's about it..

I know that Paul at ph sportscars had a couple of low mileage S2 boxes in (yes I know all parts from breakers are "low mileage..").

btw - red S2 - looks very nice [:D]

As for throttle travel - the throttle is quite long, and it takes a bit of recalibrating from more modern cars as the controls are heavier and more mechanical. If there was slack in the cable you should feel it through the pedal.

Thanks

Do you have contact details for Paul or a website?

Ive found a LSD AOT box but the guys wants 900 quid for it so i'm not sure about the outlay vrs usefulness
