2100 rpm rattle

Yes, it was indeed Reading, so they should be able to diagnose your problem fairly quickly.

I hope you're enjoying the Cayenne. I was quite pleased to hand it back on Saturday and get my Boxster back [;)]

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I have also been struck by the bug - exactly as Sean describes it!! Only just started at 2800 miles and after 7 months from new.[]

Just phoned my OPC who have booked it in for 24th November. They suggested 'heatshields' and claimed to have no knowledge or directive from Porsche GB/Gmbh on the oil pump issue. However, they have made a note of my concerns and will investigate on the 24th.

I too will report back!!

Mark

Back from the OPC after getting my rattle examined.

No surprise to hear that it is infact the OPRV. The engineer new immediately from the description I gave, but testing confirmed it.

No corrective work has been carried out on the car for 2 reasons. Firstly, changing the OPRV will only stop the problem for a while until it suffers the same fate. Secondly Porsche are testing a new part. Of course there needs to be some considerable testing to prove that it does infact fix the problem and not go again. It is hoped that the fix will be available soon so having to replace it twice in a short time frame is wasted effort, which I completely agree with.

Once the fix is announced, it is likely that the fix will be applied under a recall.

So i'll wait by the phone for the fixture call.

Incidentally, after cruising about for 2 days in a KN, I was surprised in some respects how good it was. Cruising was so relaxing, pop the car into chillmatic and waft up and down the M40 in armchair style seats that really roasted your behind when set on high. Not trying to find fault with it at all as it was a nice vehicle, but I found 2 things wrong with it. 1) it was far to big, I could have lived in it. It made the drive look like bus stop. 2) The drive wasn't spirited enough, I got a little bored with the cruising aspects. Lots of buttons to play with though to brighten up a journey.

Tony,

Thanks for the update. I shall call my OPC in the next few days and see what they say. As time goes by this seems to becoming a bigger and bigger problem. Strange that this "fault" wasn't detected by Porsche in all their testing - how many million miles do they claim they do before putting a new car on the market?

Regards,
Sean.

[] However many it's not enough ... hope this isn't the replacement gripe for the RMS issues [&o] Should also add I have the dreaded buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz it started a few weeks ago at around 2400 mile mark in the cars life & times

I have read that this issue has been covered by technical bulletin 145/05 issued on 7 Sep 05. How do we get a look at the bulletin?

Hello again chaps
In regard to the 'rattle' I have had some inside info from a reliable source about a proper fix for this - the good news is that apparently it will only take about 15 mins to do, and sorts it out for good. According to my 'mole' the solution is the replacement of a washer/plug unit somewhere in the oil sump/feed line - the inise of it protrudes too far into the oil flow causing the resonance build up. The replacement is a flatter head item which does not affect the oil flow so much. The cost of the plug is about £1 (so I have been told) and is in a tech bulletin that most OPC's should have had by now. Lets all hope that this is indeed the case, as I am sure that like my experience, the whole episode has been less than satisfactory for a car and marque of this calibre. Shame I've plumped for a 997S - I almost want my old car back...........!
I hope this is of some use and comfort - there may well be light at the end of the (rattling) tunnel!! Hoorah![:D]

Thanks for the update, Rob. I'll be phoning my OPC first thing on Monday. When I spoke to them on Wed this week, they said that they still had received no formal fix from whoever they need to get it from, and just told me to hang on in there.

Regards,
Sean.

Got it......its the Falklands.

About as far south as you can get in GB - I can't expand any further than that (I know it sounds daft) as if my OPC gets into bother with this, it may well scupper the good deal I have been offered. Sorry![:)]
Rob

Falklands??
No, somewhere a little nearer to blighty - I can assure you I live in GB and not in some far off exotic location like say, the South of France![;)].
Rob

ask the opc to check to modified release piston valve - this was recall on all 987 cars before dec2005. i had the same problem last month which was rectified straight away.

Previously I couldn't find the 'New Post' button, but now it's right there - curious.
Probably because the "New Post button" only appears on the main page of each forum section and not whilst viewing individual posts.
