Long ad here, with pictures.....

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=501478

Any questions, post them up here so everyone can see them. I cleaned the car today so may try & get some more photos if the sun ever comes out again....

Ed

Ed, I reckon that you should add £1k to the price tbh - your car is one of the best fettled cars out there!

I think the mileage counts against it - but I'm not averse to someone offering me over the asking price [:D]

Hmm, still think you should up it somewhat - there are lots of ropey cars out there, mechanically and bodily and any enthusiast would see your car and know the difference, I feel.

Good luck, anyhow![:)]

Ed, sorry to hear you're leaving the '44 fold but please, does us all a favour and put your price up! As Nick says, your car is in very good condition and has lots of valuable upgrades, without sacrificing daily use etc... I would hope to get more than that for mine if I were to sell it now - it's done 60k miles less and is on KW's, but I would argue your bodywork and engine are in better condition/spec.

I'll be round in the morning with a suitcase of tenners [8D]

Fantastic car, fantastic ad, I don't think it will take long to sell at that price.

I seriously would have it myself if I wasn't so cash strapped just now

Ed,
Way too cheap! You have done all the mods most people would want - lets face it the only bits that have done 174K are the cogs on the speedo!
I would seriously reconsider the price - I know what I have spent on mine getting towards what you have done and it makes for a far more expensive car than that.
Granted you don't expect your money back but as has been said there is a lot of tat out there.

See Ed, told you so![:D]

That car is worth £7k all day long, if not more. Not many 'sorted' 944 Turbos left, so get what it's worth.[:)]

IIRC Nick advertised his for 7500 and it didn't exactly hang around.
As has been said if I had a spare 6K around I'd be there asap. Quite what I'd do with 2 red turbo's I have no idea - one for me and one for the wife!

Thanks for all the kind words guys...[:D] I thought quite hard about the price, as well as taking soundings from PH and Promax.

The right price is one that a buyer is prepared to pay. Let's see if it sells - have had a couple of tentative enquiries already. It will be a big wrench to let it go though "....It's only a car...."

My turbo had 174k miles when I took its original engine out and it was running as strongly as a one could wish it to be.
At now 178k miles it feels as tight and composed as ever with no squeak and no rattle whatsoever even with the stiffer than M030 suspension
Just goes on to show high milers that are taken good care of such as edh's car can definitely be worth more than cars with lower mileages.

1990 is in my humble opinion the best model year for turbos as they combine the sporty feel of S/89s with the updated looks and interiors from the later cars and can be found without sunroof, which as far as I've observed isn't the case on 91s.

edh, please raise your price!

Well that's fine with me as I resent nearly every "popular" concept conveyed by our consumer society :)

But please let's not get this thread off topic.

Oh lordy here we go again!!
I think a happy medium for 20 year old cars (not 2 year old cars!) would be to say that a car that is maintained and used will be more reliable than one that is not. Over 20 years the "use" will rack up the miles - 174/20 is still less than 9K a year - most of us would would be quite happy with a 2 year old 18K car.
Certainly the existence of loved and used cars towards and over 200K goes to show you certainly shouldn't discount them on mileage alone.
All things being equal most of use would choose a car at 100K rather than 200K if there was nothing to choose between them but there is nothing to say you will have less trouble with the lower mileage one - you can't make them younger!

To quote the common theme - Ed it's too cheap!

There are 2 separate points

1. I don't think we should look at this the same way as comparing a 2 year old car with 20k vs one with 100k. Even a 100k 944 car (is that low mileage now?) will be 20+ years old & have reached the stage where many components need replacing. There will be some low mileage cars that are better than mine, and some that won't, because owners have skimped on servicing. It goes back to the old adage that you should buy on condition. A cars mileage doesn't particularly affect the way it rusts.

2. I have read several suggestions that the 944 was a favourite for clocking because it wears the miles very well - low mileage cars with limited history may well not be all they seem.

btw - I have advertised it on Pistonheads for £6,250 - lets see if I get any calls. I think that 6k is probably a price barrier for this car. Don't forget that cars always look better in pictures - this car isn't mint, I think Nick's was certainly better and worth the extra grand or so.

But if I hadn't sold it, it would be too expensive.....

I got what I asked for it - and the buyer was happy with the price

- garage full of bits to be sold next week....

If you pm me the parts I may be interested. Sorry to hear about the sale. You will miss have a turbo! [:D]

Cheers
Sandy

Well done Ed, nice to see these things are still in demand. With regards to mileage - I think if you want to drive your car then you're better off with a high mileage car you know has been driven regularly and reliably than a low mileage garage queen. It is just a simple fact that when cars stand around for long periods of time the reliability drops. You always see an increase in 'How do I fix....." posts on this forum against all of the older models around spring time when people take their cars out of winter storage. Run the car and fix it when it needs fixing, that's my ethos. No point in having it if it is not being used - unfortunately that is an addage I live by as it is the prime reason why I sold my car.

Anyway Ed, at least you're moving onto another car project. The S-Max is a great peice of kit, and has exceeded my expectations in every way - it even goes round corners well, but it is certainly not a 944. Not even close! Will be interesting how you get on with the Bimmer. I took a drive in an M3 the other day - the last model. Was a very nice car, outstanding performance for an N/A, but it still felt like a sooped up repmobile - felt like you sat on the car rather than in it. You can't beat the 944 for making you feel like your in a proper bone fide sportscar with that big central tunnel running under your elbow and those big thick chunky sills you have to step over when you climb into the car. I certainly miss mine!.

My cars are not daily drivers the 220 is taxed and MOT,until early 2010 and i am trying to use it on a regular basis at least a couple of times a week.
The 250 is parked at my mum's in a garage that she lets me use but i do start and run it for a few miles every couple of weeks so that it it is not too idle.
The cars do definately feel better with regular use or is it just you lot brainwashing me [:(]
