36k Service cost - ouch!!

ORIGINAL: Rodney Naghar

I had a 48k service done in the summer at OPC Staples Corner (formerly HR Owen)
****************************************************************
Me too a few years ago I had my Speedster oil & filter changed £250.00.

Left there and within 1/2 mile I was shocked to see the oil level
gauge was literally off the max mark on the gauge. As traffic
was typical Friday night mayhem I plodded on home 3 miles
away and then rang H R Owens to tell them they had over filled my car.

I was spoken to like I was a total idiot as it wasn't possible to over fill
my car and it has to be the sender unit.

I said no it isnt becuase I had checked the dipstick reading and it
was off the stick literally.

OK I was getting no where fast so I arranged to bring the car back
first thing next day.

They couldn't believe what I was saying was true! There oil delivery
kit was out of bonk and must have been over filling
every car serviced!

I had just under 3 litres too much in the car. The then manager
grudgingly apologised and cleared off, very unprofessional
IMO. The technician who did my car was very nice and begged me
to not hold this against them and give them another try next service.

This was a few years back and now under new management so
subject to price being right I will probably try them out in
March when my Boxsters first service is due.

Lets face it anyone can make a mistake it was just a shame that
they assume all customers are mechanical morrons and a
token gesture against my next service would have been in order
as my car had just been OPC Bodged [>:]

Lesson here I think is to do just the service at the OPC and ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING ELSE at a trusted specialist. £96/hour is absurd. Anyway, hope this is a lesson to you. For all my previous cars I've had a realiable specialist but on this occasion I was only near the car for a few days, and didn't have time to look around to find an alternative. So, thats a lazyness and stupidity tax of about £600 for me then.....
