4 problems in 10 minutes...

Definately the wiring loom, exactly the same thing happened to mine a few years back ....... the oil temp guage behaved the same too!.

Re the misting, I usually get this in the winter - probably as I leave the car outside mainly. Water collects somewhere in the system (I think its in the front somewhere). Main thing to check is the rear auxilliary fan is working in addition to the front fans. If this has failed the volume of air is much less and the misting will obviously take a long while to clear. If the rear aux fan is not working, I believe the front fans run on reduced power at a certain setting, so Im sure you would notice something was wrong if this was happening. (I think the demist button has no effect IIRC) .... there is a post about this somewhere - I think its mentioned on rennlist too.

Its more than likely due to water collecting in the system - youve had heavy rain recently?

Cabin hot air is drawn throught the ducts under the engine via the heat exchangers on the exhaust pipes - totally separate from the engine air intake.

Sorry for the confusion Nick, I had always thought that the intake at the top of the engine fed down into the heat exchangers but obviously not.

I'll need to look into the ducts below the engine because as I said earlier I get the misting problem when I wash the car and I'm now at a loss as to how the washing water gets into the system.

Right, well I have the car back now from OPC Colchester, the engine wiring loom has been replaced and, best of all, the misfire has gone completely and the oil temperature gauge is working once again. In fact, the engine appears to be running better (albeit only slightly) than it has ever done.

Mistng problem will have to wait for another day - but it's likely that water is collecting in the heat exchangers as has been suggested.

Finally, the rear wiper's been replaced with a new unit, because you can always get away with paying.

Even the slightly reluctant gearchange appears to have sorted itself out with a few more miles under its belt.
