The car is listed as having been sold - did you buy it ?

not quick enough this time unfortuntly, I saw the car really liked it, but just could not get my head around the shipping costs in time to put in an offer. Thanks for that note on that import duty BTW

I'll be preared for the next little gem that comes along though,

thanks all

Also you can shave abit off the Ca shipping as well I still get a rate below Av of $1150 in a container. I use them and I have recommened them to others so i still get this rate I think walk in off the street and you can get it for$1600. My mate wanted a VW camper shipped I got it srted for him for $1800 Plus it was FULL!!!!!!! of parts.. and panels..

Transport for the US I would use Intercity lines ALL day long..

and UK I have a mate with a Merc lorry and he does to private jobs..

As a private importer you do not pay 10% import duty - just a flat fee of £50.

is this 100% correct? I always pay 10% on parts I import from the USA. Would love to know if there is a way around this

James - that statement applies to the import of early Porsches (or other makes originating from within the EU) from the US.

It used to be that you paid zero import duty & only 5% VAT on pre-73 cars but C&E realised a while ago (when the $:£ exchange rate was at its peak) that they were missing out on an easy source of income so (more or less overnight) changed the rules.

Now a private importer pays a flat rate of £50 import duty (although many shippers are ignorant of this & try to charge 10%) + 17.5% VAT (on the combined 'sale' price + shipping + import fee).

Andy,

£50 import duty . . . I too was under the impression it was 10% . . . . if you're 100%, which you seem to be, thanks for the info.

Phil
