'86 944 clutch replacement cost?

Just wondering what price should I be expecting to pay for a clutch kit to be fitted by an independant Porsche specialist to my '86 944 Lux.

I can get a Sachs clutch kit for around £550 from The Porsche Shop.

I'm guessing £1200 at least? [:(]

Frazerpart were the best for the Sachs last time I looked. The labour cost is impossible to know, as there are is a big difference between a smooth job and one where everything goes wrong. I've been told 5 hours is a ball-park for a clutch when they know what they're doing, but I'd bet that doesn't happen often.

I'd say a grand all-in was realistic if it's straightforward, in the South East (labout rates are higher).

My recent 2.7 clutch replacement was about £1200 plus £100 for a slave cylinder ("might as well") but then I had to replace the crank sensors x2 as they graunched them during the change. Tempted to go OPC next time (i.e. in another 150k miles). About the same price I believe, with PCGB discount, and any problems encountered during the process are their own.

I think not. Porsche Reading quoted me £1,700 with discount. Needless to say I laughed and went elsewhere.

I had the clutch on my S2 replaced about 2 years ago and from memoryy the clutch was around £400 from Frazerpart Porsche and the guy i used charged £300 for fitting including replacing the gearbox linkage and having the cat welded up, total cost including linkage and welding and clutch was about £900.

Recently quoted 7 hours labour for changing a clutch if that helps with the maths.

Thanks for your helpful comments guys. Yes, Frazer Parts sell the clutch kit for less than £400, so that's a saving already.

One place in the South East quoted me around £1400 for the whole job which included a clutch for £600 !!

Reckon with the Frazer kit and a bit of shopping around at some local garages who know there way around a Porsche, I might get it done for just under a grand. That's if the job goes ok without any hiccups.

Cheers,
Kev.

Worth trying Northway at Beenham if you're looking at supply and fit. They've been working on 944s for years and my feeling is that when the car's with them I'm not paying extra for someone else's learning curve!! My car's been looked after by them since I've had it (6 yrs) and with its previous owner. They're also a few minutes walk from Aldermaston station, which is handy.
