911, 911 & More 911 World

ORIGINAL: John H

To be fair to 911 and Pig World, they do cover all the bases, but you have to consider that over a period of time. Take a stack of back copies and read them, and they are not really biased to any one type or age of Porsche. That's not to say there isn't a bit of bias in one or two separate issues, but you can hardly moan at them for that.

No, my gripe is that a once good magazine has gone off the boil ... and Mr Tipler is a dork.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I don't agree that they do cover all the bases as they should. As Mike so ably pointed out above the front engined coupe models represent 50% of UK Porsche numbers (I'd guess maybe even more). I believe the 944 register is the biggest in PCGB (though perhaps it could be argued that with granularity to the level "Yellow 911 with an Odd Chassis Number Made on a Tuesday Between 3 and 4 pm Register" the 911 owners are excessively divided prior to being conquered. Regardless there are thousands of front engined, water cooled coupe Porsches in the UK and they are all old and relatively expensive enough that none of them are owned by someone who didn't choose it very deliberately. In other words true enthusiasts and as can be seen by the "Why a 944" thread NOT all just running a "lesser" car until they can afford a 911.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I always laugh at the title - I aways thought a 911 was a Porsche!

If any of you are in Smiths pouring over the magazines, I'm the annoying one behind you tutting because I'm trying to get to the shelf to buy one of them!

I still subscribe to 911&PW, but only because it was on a Credit Card subscription and I keep forgetting to cancel it.

In the early years I would count down the days to the time it would flop through the letter box and then read it from cover to cover. Now it often stays in its bag for a couple of days and gets little more than a flick through. I tend to look through the Classified Ads section to see what cars are up for what values and that is about it. I did spot something about 944's in this months but didn't get around to reading it. I must remember to cancel my subscription.

I used to subscribe to Excellence. I forget why I let it lapse but I like it better than 911&PW unless it has changed since I last saw it.

I've just shocked myself with the realisation it's at least 7 years since I lapsed the subscription. Possibly 8 [&:]

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news Fen......but.....according to last page of this months there seems to be quite a big article about 944 turbo's in next months edition [&:])

As Tony indicated the onwer of the car used is a Titanic lister. I might have a look at the article in Smiths and see how it is - on past experience it will be full of errors of fact but you never know I guess. As well trying they need to try well.

You guys should start your own publication "944 World".

They will be queuing out of WH Smiths onto the high street for one [:D]

Good point well made.

Saying that though TiPEC did quite well as a watercooled, front engined club before it went more general and the complaint isn't that there is no 944 feature so much as no non-911 feature. That and when they do one they may as well make it up for all the factual correctness it has. I've lost count how many times Johnny Tipler has been pleasantly surprised that a 944 Turbo he's checking out has air-con even though it was standard fit from day 1...

I think 911&PW are about to let the uneducated masses know just what a performance bargain the Turbo is, this I'm sure will temporerily push the value of the cars up for a while.
