911 alarm and immobiliser

I have a 1987 3.2 carrera targa, which is fitted with an alarm and immobiliser. Can anyone advise if this is likely fitted as standard, or more likely to be aftermarket. The vehicle has been in storage for some time but now the alarm is being set off for no apparent reason. The alarm is switched on and off by use of a phono type jack plug inserted into a fitting in the centre consul, where there is also a red activation light. I do not have any further details or paperwork on the alarm system. Thanks

I’m about to collect a 1988 3.2 which has had the alarm and immobiliser completely removed ... some of those 80’s security options are now more trouble than they are worth imho ??

Sometimes you can find who the manufacturer was on one of the control boxes.
i bout they are still in business.

As Matthew says remove and renew.

Not likely standard. I had a Cobra system on mine that had probably been installed in the 90's, didn't prove too much hassle provided you remembered to put the car on a charger when not in use.
As others have said, if you want an alarm there is likely far better on the market these days.

Thanks for replies regarding the alarm system. I agree with the sentiments, rip it out. Not so easy though, as I tried this a few years ago and local auto electrician wasn’t keen. Turns out the alarm is an AA approved Foxguard system installed in 1996. Spoke to a very helpful man at Bridgewater Electronics, Somerset, as recommended on a Pistonheads Forum, who advised on potential faults and removal. Thanks again for all the advice, and the alarm will likely be removed.

Yes I think you‘re right ... it may not be quite as simple as just ripping it out ... in my 911 3.2 "previous invoices file” there’s an invoice somewhere for "removal of alarm and immobiliser” by a specialist indie ... ??
