Tiptronics are definitely more prone to bore-scoring, for one thing.

You have stats on that? From an official source would be handy.
 
I didn't want a Tip (I'd had cars with auto boxes before and indeed found them boring), but I was made an offer I couldn't refuse which got me into Porsche ownership, MY98 C2...and....I love it!

Unless you are a seriously good driver (and I mean semi-professional standard) you'll shift as fast in a Tip (in semi -auto mode) possibly faster, as in a manual, unless you can do can do clutch-less gearchanges going up (but you'll still need it coming down); the tip box is slick and quick. Also, with a lot of power under your right foot having 2 hands on the wheel is a lot more reassuring!

I'm keeping mine for a while, but if and when I do come to take the next step, I'll look at Tips with just as much an open mind as I'd look at manuals.
