as a loyal subscriber, got my copy yesterday in the post...what good value for money I thought after I put it down - I know even more about Chelsea Tractors, and am excited about the prospects of running the RS on LPG.

Can't wait for next months article on fitting towbars to 924's, roofracks to 928's, and a VW diesel camper engine to 993's to lower the running costs. Maybe if we're lucky another article on a bog standard 996 which was supplied in a terrible colour with vomit inducing interior "enhancements" that a dealer is trying to sell [&o]

I think they've lost their way recently. bring back readers running reports and articles with a bit more depth to them than 'I drove the 996 all day and it was nice in a new car way but not as nice as my 944'..[]

No doubt next months issue onthe 964RS will end up with the 'how much do they cost' section telling everyone that you can pick them up for £19k still in immaculate, one owner condition.

and GT Purely P is even worse [&:]

Just my thoughts for a Wednesday morning

Matt

I am sure you will be delighted to hear that in March there will be another magazine for you to get upset about! This one is called Total 911. Their website promises

"1. 100% comitment to the 911 model - from the first to the latest - in as much detail as you can handle
2. Photography to blow your mind - the photos we wish we could all take; if only we have the talent, the cars and the locations; above all though, we'll give them space to do them justice
3. Depth and breadth. No more thin, shallow articles; a readership focused on one model will expect, and be delighted by, features which go beyond any other 911 magazine you'll have read before"

I bet you cannot wait[:D]

Ive also let my 911PW subscription lapse at xmas as over the last year ive only read bits of the mag rather than all of it.

If you read French try to get a subscription to Flat6 magazine
In my view, it is much better than the glossy picture book
(GT PP) and the Porsche version of Practical Classics (911&Pworld)...

Surprised u prefer this to RS Magazine .......................i try and pick up both when i am in Europe .

Fear not. It hopefully wont say you can buy a good 1 owner car for £19k. Peter Morgan has discussed certain things like this with me. It should also have some nice pictures of the superb 11,000 km Green Clubsport I sold last year.

i wish them luck - and will definately buy..i reckon it will be tough for them to fill a whole magazine every month with just 911's..will be interesting to see how they manage

In as much detail as we can handle? I can see it now. "And here is a picture of the nut that holds the bonnet stay on and here it is again, from another angle"[&:]

Hi Matt. When does the next issue come out? I don't usully read it as I find it a bit dull, would be interested in a 964 RS edition though ..... for the archive of course.

Thanks

Hello Feroz
out about 4 weeks from today - you'll find in next to 'caravanning & diesel car monthly' in WH Smiths

you over to the Ace on the 31st?

Vic,

In my view F6-Mag is better than RS-Mag. I have read F6 without discontinuity since its inception (about 15 years ago!). In no specific order,

-they publish thorough performance tests in standardized conditions (and have done so for a good number of years)
-they test some cars on their own track (in Abbeville)
-they have direct access to some truly outstanding cars (e.g. the December issue covers an actual track test of a 917K!)
-they also cover have a better coverage of special cars (e.g. some 911 factory prototypes such as a 911 4-seater)
-they know how to relay the specificity of driving different models to the reader (closer in quality to Ian Kuah comparing RSs in recent Excellence, BTW he actually contributes to Flat6, or to Mark Hales than to the GTPP people!)
-they have a broader coverage of the 911/Porsche racing scene than any other publication (from Tour Auto, to the Porsche Cup, to the GT Champ), with articles written by racing drivers.
-they have a broader coverage of specialized outfits (from raceline to PSI)
-they have the largest 911 advert section (with pictures) of any magazine, an excellent place to get a feel of for the market

This type of coverage in a single 911 magazine is hard to match! As we know, French do it better.

I have a feeling we met at Spa a couple of years ago ??? Interested in ur comparison of the 2 mags maybe on a random basis when i pick them up i ve just been lucky with rs ............i found another good one in Aix this year ,cant remeber what its called !.............IMHO nothing worse than GT PP, every time they talk abt cars i know and love they come up with new forms of idiocy, specialising in mistakes on 993 GT2 s , and agree that Porsche 911 W is deteriorating..............................have put my name down for new one and hopeful the standard will be high ................

I picked up 3 french mags a couple of weeks ago at Lyon airport, F6, RS and a.n. other (probably the same one as Vic !). All three are good, though the photgraphy not great, spoiled only slightly by my lack of technical french - does anyone know of a useful internet resource for translating this type of stuff ?
I agree with much previous posts about 911PW, the technical errors are starting to become just too frequent and annoying. Looking forward to the new one !

There are at least 4 French-published Porsche mags.
I pick most up each time I'm over there.

Really should learn French one day...[:D]

911 & porsche world suffering from xmas blues....

would agree there wasnt much in it... and as for ther Cayenne buyers guide.... prob' a bit early for that.. or they were running out of buyers guides to do !

but the piece by Peter Morgan is always a good read.... seems he always has his finger on the pulse...

Hi Matt. Thanks for the dates, will see you at the Ace.

On the subject of mags, I like reading and cars but find all the "one marque" publications pretty useless and totally biased. I think EVO is more interesting (although still very Porsche biased - maybe they are doing something right) and has good coverage. Talking to a friend who recently bought a 964 and was reading up he was quite gobsmacked at how tainted a picture they present.

Regards

by they you mean the one makes F'oz?.....I remember being really "put off" though it appealled more for that, by the 964RS stuff I'd read......and they really are not as bad as everyone says.....clearly it depends what your comparison/baseline is. but you're right evo's good, also Octane's got good variety some good contibutors...the only reason I buy the Porsche ones is so I don't miss anything

We met at Spa a couple of years ago. It was the end of the day and you just had come in with a gear selection pbm ;)

Have you considered doing the PCF Days from May 20-23?

http://www.porscheclubfrancorchamps.be/

i have, but need to be around that w/end so going down on the Monday for Autotrack Tues/ Wed...................same GT2 i hope ! The other French Magazine was Porsche Scene by the way seemed a good balance between old and new
Are u coming down to Oulton Park 5 th March with the Scottish crew???
Meeting up for a meal the Friday night ???

Oulton Park, don't know, will depend on the car I have at that time.
Have already booked the Autotrack Tues, which I will do after the PCF Days,
and maybe one nice session at the 'Ring on Monday...
