930 flatnose headlight units

Hi, i'm new to this forum and relatively new to 930 ownership!

These cars are great, but i have a small anoying issue with the pop up headlights on my slant nose. Basically they wobble as the car runs over the ever increasing number of pot holes and undulations on our Great British roads. This may sound minor, however it seems to aggravate drivers travelling infront of me especially on the motorway and i tend to be the victim of some rather abusive language as i inevitably pass them.

Now i understand the the factory built cars used the mechanisms from the 944, but mine is an aftermarket Dage DS935 so i'm unsure whether i will also have the 944 mechanisms or not! Has anyone heard or experienced a similar problem, can this be adjusted out or is it likely to be wear in the mechanism and replacement is the only solution?

Any input would be gratefully recieved.

i am no expert on this but i would have thought it likely yours also have the lights from a 944. they are a good unit and i've never known them (i've owned 944,924 and 930 slantnose) wobble before.it must be very annoying. i'd pop the car along to your local Porsche independent and get them to take a look. could just be something needs tightening up.

Thanks! Will have a look at a few US sites first and then probably drop it into Parr. I used to work in a garage so am quite hand on but i don't get much spare time these days and access to the mechanisms seems quite restricted.

Much rather spend the little spare time i have driving the car![:D]

Hi Barry, i'll get some photos posted up shortly, not in close vicinity of car at present!

Many thanks.

911 RRT by any chance?

I'm surprised you got a response from Barry - after market slant nose conversions are the work of the devil so far as 930SE Register is concerned!

now now john, he was asking for help, not a valuation of a bitser, thats a car full of wrong bits....did Porsche fit mazda headlights,

I do not think so, thats the reason they wobble, they are off a rx7 , they also did not fit 944 headlights they are different including the brackets,

I nearly forgot that yours was a bitser did your headlights wobble.

No offence taken or intended Barry..... if I recollect correctly, my DS935 had some 928 parts involved somewhere in the headlight mechanism.
And yes, they did wobble. John Greasley's boys at Dage Sport always put it down to a Porsche compromise - the original slant nose 930s weren't meant to have pop up headlights, making do with a pair in the front valance - but that failed to meet lighting regs in a number of countries, including the UK.

OK seems like i'm running over old ground!

As far as i'm concerned i'm happy to own a bitser, it don't feels so bad when i mount up those miles and make further improvements!?

But very interesting, so is it likely that i have rx7 mechanisms? and yes i do have RRT, is it a car known for headlight wobble?

The genuine 930 SE had hand made wings and headlights, these are faultless with no wobble , 928 arms were used in part of the construction, I do not know of any wobbley headlights on any PORSCHE build car.. 924 944 968 928 all very similar in construction

Did your Dage have Mazda headlights with 2 motors or a copy construction similar to Porsche

well now you know , it was johns I am sure he will now put you right on what its made from, and should be able to advise on sorting the correct parts to repair the problem.

Glad you like the car, its a good copy.

Barry, this might go against your philosophy but would you know the whereabouts of any pictures/diagrams of what the factory fitted mechanisms look like?

send me a full picture of yours to Porsche930@live.co.uk I wll try to fiqure out your set up,

I think it would be impossible to get the correct set up now, but might be available from the USA, 506 car were made for the ROW market, only 50 for the UK.

I do not know of any breakers of the car in the uk.
