Hi Everybody I hope someone can help.

I recently started dating this lovely girl but she failed to tell me her x is a physco nutter, and Sat morning he put a sledge hammer through every pane of glass in my 82 mark 1 944. Autoglass say the bill for the insurance is just under 8 Grand (incredible huh!! its only glass no body damage) so the insurance are gonna write it off.

A guy on ebay has offered me all the glass from a 924 similar year for 170.00 which is great. Question is.. are they the same?? I beilive the spoiler is smaller on the 924 which is no big deal for now but what about the rest

Many thanks if you can help

Cheers

Paul

Hi Paul,

Ouch, hope she's worth it. That's serious commitment!

The glass is the same, and you should be able to get the side windows for next to nothing from breakers, see the faqs for a few good ones. Screen is the same on a 924 or an early 944. Rear hatch is going to be cheap to buy but expensive to post, so a local one is the only real option.

924 has a different spoiler, I don't know if the mounting holes are the same. They are different on a 968, can anyone else help?

Thanks Paul

Only known her a month!! Consolation factor is I'm 48 and shes 34 bonde thin and very pretty!
This guy on ebay as I said will sell me all the glass from his 924 for £170.00 and £40.00 to send it to me as his mate owns a courier company, seems like a no brainer to me, provided it fits. Insurance company are gonna write it off, they have offered me scrap value for retention and as theres no body damage, so I should get her back to normal.Car has huge complete history and only done 77,000 miles so defo worth it. Problem is I will be finding glass in it for the rest of my life probably! ( oh and if the lovely Michelle wants to see me she can come here to London! lol)

I know we are going off topic but I wonder what the insurance will value it at? Competition anybody?

Paul

Erm ....

1. Report it to the police.
2. Don't report it to the insurance company. Having a claim on your file will make insurance quite pricey for years to come.
3. Payout (if you do go to the insurance company) will be less than the value of a bag of ready salted, once they have deducted your premium excess. Yes, really.
4. If you are doing the rear screen then you'll probably just replace the whole hatch. So it's less a Q of whether the glass will fit, more a Q of whether the hatch will bolt on and the catch mechanism work as it should.
5. She'd better be good for you to put up with such nonsense. Got any heavy 'friends' whom you could persuade to 'pay him a visit'. You may find this set of glass for £170, but the next set may be harder to come by ....

bladdy hell fire!!!!!!!!!!!

so the guys a tit, a bully and a coward. my sis's ex a few years back put a hammer to her boyfriends bmw cab, all panels caved in and slashed the roof with a stanley knife. total dickhead. phone the police and hope the idiot gets done, get the car fixed and enjoy the girlfriend.

Thanks everybody, Gwent police are useless though, no witness no nick they say, we even had to push them hard just to pay him a visit. They are great at nicking you for speeding though

Still need to know if the 924 tailgate bolts straight on though?

I have the tailgate, rear quarter windows and front door windows all off a 944(plus a free cracked screen[;)])
If you sort your own courier out you can have the lot for £100.00

I'd pay the £100 or so for the glass and see if you can get a glass fitter to do a private job on the side for another £100. If you claim the insurance or write it off the increase in premium over the next few years will cripple you even if the ex boyfriend doesn't. The car will also be classed as a write off for the future. Again a knock back in value.

I'd dangle the ex boyfriend over the edge of a multi storey car park by his ankles with a few friends of mine, take him for a drive in the boot, then leave him tied up naked on the outside railings of a motorway bridge. But that's me just being friendly.

£8,000? Imbeciles. The drop glass and rear quarters are worthless used and a hatch struggles to make £40 if its from a late 944. Id buy a new windscreen as early parts cost about £100 (OEM, even from Porsche they arent too dear) and a new windscreen is always worthwhile.

The dangling from the car park is being arranged (and I ain't kidding), revenge is a dish best served cold
but ..GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS Chaucer Insurance are doing the whole job for me under a glass claim, everything being renewed and all I have to pay is £70 excess (glass excess) so happy days! No write off or major claim or nothing like that. Goes to show not all 944's are considered to be worth less than a bag of crisps! Thanks to all who helped on the forum

Cheers

Paul

That's the problem with insurance. They can't use second-hand parts, they have to use a repairer who's approved, which means huge premises with courteousy cars and free cappuccino etc.

I dealt with a claim where a really nice 944 was written off with light damage to the driver's door. The repair was quoted at about £2K, new door, fitting, painting, all the extras. The owner bought the "scrap" back, spent £40 on a door in the right colour and got his car back, but it's forever going to be a cat c. [&o]

That's why I decided to pay for the repairs to mine myself after the hit and run 3 weeks ago....... The insurance company would have written it off, and the car was too good to be written off!

That has to be good news. A glass claim means (probably) no loss of no claims as well, which means the problem is solved for no more than £70.

Very good result. I am pleased for you.

Oh, and we need pictures. And some pictures of the car with the new glass fitted as well ...

The minute I arrive at Autoglass Cardiff I'll take some pics and post them up.The insurers said they will also arrange to get the car back to me as well (they are so nice!!) but to be honest I would rather get a train down there and pick it up, if for any reason its not to my liking I can get them to deal with it there and then. I'm guesing early part of next week, although when I was there on Sunday.. amazingly the guy said they had everything IN STOCK expect for rear tailgate and passenger window. I'll be interested to see how the tailgate comes out as when the glass is smashed its just a bendy messed up frame.

heres a few more pics

Not sure if it is applicable to your car but don't forget to mention that the aerial is built into the screen and needs re-connecting to the car when fitted. Good News about the Glass claim on the insurance so if the guy who did this gets knocked down by a bus all will be well.

I was more interested in seeing pictures of your other half's ex being dangled off a bridge!

Another local lad, eh? There seems to be a number of 944 owners around East London who post on here. I can't remember seeing your machine around tho'.

Only series two cars have an aerial in their windscreen.

Paul, they cant, but their suppliers quote ridiculous prices for pattern parts, which are many times dearer than original Porsche parts.
