944, 928 & 911 racing at Angelsey

Solid performance Mark, best race time a good improvement on qualifying. Was that Alex driving with Pete Morris in the 325? Interesting development for EMC to be campaigning a bmw this year, looked fantastic in the flesh last week.

Lovely to meet you Simon thanks for coming by and saying hi,the photos are cool![:)]
The race was great with a mild tyre drama after testing fun on friday it made the result even sweeter,i also nearly broke a linkage in the gearshift being a bit too "firm" with a gearshift, the racing felt like it had gone up a notch with everyone a little more pushy perhaps. The qualifying went ok but there were lots of cars on the circuit with two series qualifying at once i didnt feel like i set a best lap by a long way and a clear run was tricky plus a worry in my head about the tyres. After sorting the tyre issue in time for the race it meant i could lean on the car without worrying two much and a good pitstop timed by Kevin and the guys at EMC meant i could get a bit of space away from a car that i was having a bit of trouble with.Drove as hard as i could, the car didnt turn in like in testing but we made the best of it and kept going, with the pitstop it is very hard to know where abouts you finished as everyone gets mixed up..
When the results came out i was over the moon and reckon the car in its current road guise could have come no higher positionwise, the cars that came higher were a Lotus Esprit race car that is very light,an expertly well driven 928 full monty ex factory racecar, and a 911 turbo with a super wide race body conversion and must have between 400-500 bhp, this car was in an invitation class and next time has to be returned to original silhouette, its tyres were as wide or wider than a 997 cup car...so with my roadworthy 944 that gets driven to the shops and work regularly, with few power mods running on original sixteen inch wheels and two seats in the car (left in for the time being for instruction purposes) full glass windows to come in just behind these full monty race cars i am pretty over the moon.Great weekend of racing![:)]
PS The Fabspeed exhaust is a great improvement, you can see it in Simons pics, car breaths better, tempted at some point to lose the front silencer...
PPS Neil, EMC are building another 944 race car,the BMW is for another series, it stops and corners really well i thought,it was a pleasure to watch Alex and Pete M in action you can see the race experience knowhow from miles away!

I wanted to go to this but the bits for sorting the rear wheel bearing didn't arrive til sat morning [:(] Still, theres always Oulton! I will definately be there!

Good to hear your enjoying it Mark, Kev told me all about the BM last week. The 'other' car is based on my old body shell, they have the number plates sat on the wall in the workshop. Very strange feeling that I may well this year end up racing my S2 race car against my old S2 if that makes any sense. It shows how fast they can turn a car around though as my old shell was completely bare last Monday but this will apparently be ready for Alex and Pete to race up at Oulton in 3 weeks time.

I was there marshalling all weekend, wish I'd known there were a few of you there, you could have bought me a beer....! [:D]
Decent number of 944s out to play and yes I was cheering them on but have to say my award for the best sound from the pitwall was the 928 painted in what looked like blackboard paint, awesome.

Is the blue 944 Turbo Marks car...??? seemed to be having a good day out there

I marshall most weekends at either Oulton or Anglesey so let me know if there are any of you there I'll try to find you to say hello...

Yup that was me,was very hot wasn't it!!!????What bit of the track were you on??? next race is Oulton Park [:)]!
Fabspeed exhaust-got it direct from Fabspeed arrived in 2-3 days was 625 quid for the 3 inch cat back system, seriously want the front section aswell when funds allow it is so nicely made and sounds great too.

Hot is a bit of an understatement, and orange Proban overalls are not the most comfortable things to be wearing when the temperature soars. Not complaing though because normally its raining sideways at Anglesey and it was nice to stay dry for a change. Lets hope it stays the same for the 750 motor club next week...

I was at post 15 (start of the start / finish straight). I think it was in your race where we had some startline fun. A BMW (red with a missing rear window) stalled on the grid at race start, I think you qualified better so would have missed it. How he managed to not get wiped out is beyond me.....a bit of frantic flag waving was going on behind you...

I'll be at Oulton for the next CSCC meeting and I will look out for you, when might be an issue thought. Unlike Anglesey its a one day meeting, we have to sign on and get to post before you guys go out to play, if we get delays in the morning then we get a shortened lunch break and depending on when you are racing you may have cleared off before we get back to the paddock. If I get the chance though I'll be the one in orange asking which one's Mark.....

If I don't find you GOOD LUCK.....!!!!!!!! hope we never meet on the circuit.

Love those pictures with Marks car cresting the rise and nothing but the sea in the background - Yikes!

Good result Mark, shame you couldn't bolt on 4" wider wheels too

Great pics and results!! Looks like you must be hard on acceleration at the top of that crest Mark. Both rears are squatting down and giving the appearance of running more neg than the fronts so I suspect that the nose is lifting just a touch to add to the illusion.

Finding turn in on our cars is a battle at times. Not sure on your ultimate setup and geometry, but you can try more neg and toe out perhaps? Also is it on slower corners or where in general? I found that with the KWs that they are actually a long bodied strut and I was getting into the bump stops too much as the car was low, which really hurt turn in on certain corners. Downhill tight corners were the worst due to this. We had to raise the car to 'cure' this. Just passing on what I've experienced.
