Picked up from TIPEC member Stuart Friday night in Glasgow and drove faultlessly to Stroud Saturday , needs to have some work removing modifications i.e. wheels , side skirts ,
and the large array of electronic gadgets. but I believe basis for a good 944 cabriolet. :) interested to see what others think. ??

1991 car with 125k miles. and reasonable history

You need the direct link option with Photobucket, not the "email and DM" link. Then click the "image" button and paste between the two words:

Looks nice, lovely colour for a cab. Stuart did put some stuff up about it here. I agree about the skirts and wheels, and those lights are just plain wrong to me. Although Stuart said they lit up most of Scotland, which was probably the reason they were fitted. [&:]

I like the door handles, which is odd as I don't normally. I guess it's a colour thing again: sometimes they look good, other times like cheap plastic after-market jobs. Personally I'd have the coloured wheel centres and amber lenses on that colour as well, as I like the splashes of yellow, but that's very subjective.

Lovely car in a lovely colour, be nice to see it with all the superfluous debris removed!! Spoils a great looking car but horses for courses I guess.

LOvely, one question, why are all the 944's located in Scotland :) It's an awful long way from S. Wales :(

Well......

The OP did say he's taken it home to Stroud. I've looked at my Ladybird Atlas of England, from 1972, and Stroud is near Wales.....[;)]

More seriously, I've seen a real change over ten years from people looking at cars near them, to appreciating that travelling for the right car is cheaper in the long run. With digital cameras and email, you can essentially ask the seller to take you round a car before you commit to the journey. Even with the prices of the horrible things they call "public transport", a one-way trip to Scotland to get a car that might save ÂŁ000s? It makes a lot of sense: people have long travelled the world for desirable cars, and imported them. Porsches are catching up, or at least I guess importing from Scotland is halfway to rust-free Cali cars. [8|]

Lets just hope there is nothing nasty hiding behind those skirts, I just had my 968 skirts taken off to reveal terrible rust.

I see you've managed to wash her Jon, well done! Was actually sad to see her go but happy that I managed to save her from lying in someone's yard unloved and put right all the things that probably seen her laid up in the first place.

Had I been keeping her I would most certainly have set about putting her back to standard, great engine and box and recent brakes and suspension plus all the stuff I done to get her up and running and ready for the road.

Looking forward to seeing her once the complete restoration to standard has taken place!

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Thanks again for your hospitality , and yes back to original is the long term aim (although as we discussed might leave the rear parking sensors , functional and not obtrusive )
not sure I would call it washed :) just a quick Sunday morning hose down to remove the road film from the trip down.

lastly did I dream it or did you say you had a spare compressor ? if yes let me know what you want for it plus postage and will sort out

Best wishes to you your wife and son

Jon

You did not dream it! But it's only a cheapo from Halfords I meant to give you for your journey home! I do have one genuine Porsche compressor but it is in need of an overhaul which I haven't got round to yet! Keeps shorting out! Plus it's going in my turbo when I finally sort it. An idea for this weekend!

All the best to you and the fleet [:D]

Stuart

Well had a chance to start the list of things needed I will also post in the wanted section so here goes

Set of D90 wheels
Dashboard cowl (plastic surround )
Digital dash clock
Tonneau cover (blue or Black )

These are the immediate requirements , also can anybody tell me from the photos (above)what the wheels currently on the car are from originally so I can get the on the for sale section

many thanks

jon

Those wheels would originally have been fitted to a Cayenne, the tyres have obviously been changed to fit the 944 so you may want to split them before trying to sell them.

Is it always the display that fails? Mine doesn't work, but I don't want to waste money on a repair kit if there's something else wrong with it.

I have repaired three now with a repair kit from Alasdair... it is a really satisfying job[:)]

No 944 or S2 badging on a Cabriolet. The third brake light is a carbuncle too. PU lamp abortions and replacement clear front indicator and repeater lenses. 968 type door handles - I like these though, but wouldn't entertain them unless they were genuine parts.

Id be extremely concerned about what was under the sill covers until proved wrong. They aren't genuine as far as I can see and they aren't worth anything of they are as they will have had to be butchered in order to fit.

Now we need someone here with more technical knowledge that me....[&o]

I think it's the fuse if it fails suddenly, the display goes over time.

Mine is disconnected as it's on the same circuit as the glovebox light, and with the broken glove box hinge the fuse has been pulled to avoid the battery draining overnight.

Love the little niggles they throw up. [&:]

I've just received a replacement clock screen from Alasdair that I plan to fit tomorrow, I'm content with doing the job although I've never done it before.... Do you want a thread started with photos or is there one already as I can't see a detailed thread anywhere?
