I will go to see it this weekend & if as good as I hope I'll put an offer in. Will let you know if I am a Porsche owner again after a 2 year gap...
Thanks again!
Wake up at the back, Sims! It isn't an S, it is a late Lux []ORIGINAL: John Sims
I'm not keen on the S though.

The wheels do look a little scruffy, if you want a set of re-furbished late-offset 15" teledials with colour centres to really set it off..........[]
I will get rid of them one day! [8|]

Yes, the wheels are pretty scruffy alright. But I figured a refurb at one of the wheel specialists (when/if I get some cash together) would sort it out. But coloured centres....Paul, I'd be tempted if I wasn't about to be broke from buying a car I really shouldn't be buying!
Hopefully, my W124 Mercedes will be on Autotrader this weekend as can't afford to run two cars. Fingers crossed it won't take too long to sell. Nobody on Pistonheads wanted it []
Genuine thanks for all the assistance so far! I will let you know how things go on Saturday when I get back home (hopefully with my new car).

Mean.....The 'S' is just great. Once you learn 4th and 5th gear are contraindicated to rapid progress and enjoy redlining. []Quite right - late Lux - excellent car -just the job - much better than an S

So, let the search for my car continue... If anyone hears of any really nice (c. £3800) cars up for grabs, I'd be very grateful if they'd let me know. I'll buy them a few beers at a future PCGB meet as a thank you!
PS. Paul, will have to ask you to keep those wheels on ice for a bit yet!

. It is a nice car but not the one for me. I am starting to think I am too fussy!
Don't think like that, you are right to be fussy if someone describes a car as mint.
What exactly put you off? Cars can always look good in photographs but once you see it up close the telltale signs become clear. Too many people describe a car as good but when you point out little foibles they qualify it with 'its good for a 15 year old car'. This is not the same thing, a good Porsche will still be immaculate and the price should reflect accordingly. An average Porsche will still be very good in comparison with other cars but the price should be less

What put me off was the details really. While the car was looked after, it wasn't lovingly looked after. The car has had considerable paint, which itself was of good quality. However, there was a fair bit of overspray on the rubbers, part of the rear window & even some overspray on the drivers seat.
The sills were replaced & looked solid, but on the part of the sill nearest the front of the car, the workmanship was poorly finished. I had the sills done on my 911 before & you would never have known it, as the company who did it (Specialised Paintwork near Reading) did such a good job.
The upper parts of the rear seats were recovered but were not matched well enough to the original unmarked leather & a piece of the rear seat trim was missing. The front valance was cracked. Finally (!), the driver & passenger side windows were very badly scratched; not something I would have expected a loving owner to allow to happen.
But, I must say the seller was a lovely chap. I guess, what it all comes down to, is the fact that one person's idea of mint isn't the same as another person's.
My dream is to find an adored car owned by an obsessive car lover. In other words, I want to buy a car from someone like me!
