944 estate for sale

owww, my eyes, my eyes!!!! [:'(]

What a monstrosity - looks like a cross between a Scimitar GTE (remember those) and an Austin Allegro (who could forget) in side profile.

Hmm, actually I quite like the look of that - it was commented on in another thread recently as well.
However at close to £17k at current exchange rates it would be fairly easy to pass on that one.

Aslo anyone know where i can get more info on these? are they original Porsche or converted and is there any in the UK?

I take it you mean the Z3 M Coupe as the roadster is... well, a roadster.

Most people on here like the 944 estate conversions - me included - but then I'm an estate fan. I think for that money I'd rather have the M Coupe though: 170 ish BHP of 26 year old 4 cylinder Porsche-based kit car vs. 325bhp of 8 year old straight 6 BMW M and £2k left over - not really much contest I'd say.

It is 1981 so it's a 924 turbo in all likelihood (certainly not a 944 anyway)

Interesting article on this in June 07 Excellence magazine(US publication). Built by DP Motorsport from design of Zimmermann in Germany, believed 10 built but only 8 known about.Built between 1988 and 2003 ( conversion cost 35000 Euros on top of car!!!).They still have one body thats going to be built with wide body conversion

As posted above DP Motorsport in Germany. Last I heard they had the makings of a couple more cars. Search as it was discussed 4 or 5 weeks ago.

doesn't look right at all to my eyes. The proportions are all wrong and the distictive angular styling of the 944 has been lost at the rear. Its a nasty fudge that doesn't work imo I feel the same about the cabriolet justdoesn't look designed

Weird - I think the coupe is the weak design of the 3. I've never really liked the big glass hatch I guess. To me the 928 rear glass treatment is much better.

I think it looks the dogs danglies.

I often think it would be great to, in effect, build a brand new 951 (i.e. one with all new and upgraded parts) That would have to be the body to have.

I once had a DP Motorsport front splitter (until it got ripped off). The quality was very good.

Must say I do like these - especially the rear three quarters view - from the front I personally don't think the design is quite so happy. Certainly individualistic !

I like it! It looks like a very good conversion. Much better looking than those Ferrari estates created fro the Sultan of Brunei.

yes I agree the 928 has a better looking rear end. Funny my missus said the same thing and she doesn't really like either 44 or 28 .
I think the roof rails look all wrong too. They are too high and way too short. They don't accentuate the roof line they fight it. They look like they have been grafted on from another car. Th e Audi A4 Avant for example look just about perfect in chome

The side windows sweep up as does the roof. I think they would look better curving down but then the hatch opening would be so tiny it would hardly be worth the conversion.

And there lies the major flaw !.. It simply isn't worth it. If you want a classic sports car the 44 is a good choice. If you want a sensible estate then get a A4 or any one of a million other cars designed for the purpose.

I keep seeing a Scimitar stuck to the back of a 944 lol

I think the point isn't that it's a sensible estate, though to be honest as practical as the 944 already is it must be much more so when reasonable height is added to the roof line to compensate for the single flaw in the tapering height of the coupe load area, though it probably loses something in the width of opening that gets a bonnet into the boot when I couldn't fit one in my 5 series Touring (nor probably my A6 Avant though I haven't tried it).

In no way would an A4 be a comparable car (possibly a 330i Touring in that vein would be better?), though isn't the A4 Avant quite small for an estate? Certainly the 80 was and the 3 series Touring is tiny. I bet there wouldn't be much in it for size in all but rear seat space and I know some RS6 owners who would buy a current model RS4 if it weren't for the (apparently - I didn't look personally) pitiful rear legroom.

Anyway as I said I like it better than the coupe version, others don't and neither is right or wrong. I'd still go for the M Coupe instead personally since the 944's rear seats aren't important to me but they are to lots of people.
