944 Estate

If my aging memory serves me right I'm sure there was a company that made a limited no of 944 estate cars, has anybody seen one and does anyone own one?or I am just losing it!

The first was a 937 Shooting Brake. Ive seen a couple of 951 models, but Im yet to see the Carrera GT in the flesh.

There's a German company that made a limited run of conversion kits. I think they performed the conversion themselves, rather than selling it in kit form. I think if you search the forum for shooting brake as well as estate, you might find more info. There have been two or three threads about these cars over the past couple of years.

Built by company called Zimmerman, DP Motorsport built them, DP44 Cargo was name sold under.Only built 8. I have Ecellence mag issue156 June 07 that has full spec and 4 page article on it. Looked a very nice but very expensive conversion
P.S now pic above has come up looks like that conversion was the one on the 924 the DP had flaired sides without the 924GT type arches

I am sure I have also seen a rear hatch glass replacement that effectively does the same thing for much less money. Can't for the life of me remember where I have seen it though. It made the back of the car look a little like the Smart roadster though which is a bit of a love/hate look.

Nice ? [:'(]
thats awful. Stuck on wheel arches and a roofline that looks like its been done in the dark.
The Scimitar was a graceful car in comparison.[:(] it looks like a kit car from the 70's.
I think a 944 estate could look good with some italian styling it certain'y would be a good fast workhorse

The 944 estate that's been featured here several times is great. Like the Lynx Eventer XJS conversion, or the Aston shooting-brake conversions. Those of us who have dogs, muddy lifestyles etc. actually want a sports car with practicality. The Scimitar is a good example, effectively a Capri with room for a couple of Vizslas and some wellies.

We sold a puppy to a couple who needed room for two, a hatch for the dog and serious performance. They bought one of those really strange-loooking MZ3coupe things, and it made a lot of sense.

The only problem with the 944 estate conversion is the comparison with the Allegro estate. As I spent many happy miles in my Allegro, twirling the quartic wheel, I'll not accept anyone's opinion that this is a disadvantage....[8|]

A neighbour of ours has one of those. Am I alone in thinking that it's a gorgeous looking machine? Maybe even the best looking Beemer to date? His is specced to within an inch of its life, mind you "¦ racing seats, the whole shooting match.

Z3M looks like a hot wheels custom, kinda nice tho not my fave beemer (Z1,M1,E34,E30M5 all preferable)

944 estate reminds me of a reliant scimitar, kinda like those too... to look at at least.

It was made by strosek,i have a picture of one fitted to a 968 but it just looks wrong !!

You barely need to look at the picture to know it will look utterly, gobsmackingly disgusting once you know it was unleashed on the world by Stroesek [8|]

I actually really, really like the 944 shooting brake and I utterly cannot see where you can so vehemently dislike it, Nick. Especially if you like the Z3 Coupe which is about a close a "mainstream" model as I can think of to the look.

Look at that! Ive owned, bought - sold, built, raced and been interested in these cars (on and off) for the last 15+ years and Id never seen or heard of a Strosek SportKombi hatch before! I will admit to bidding on a couple of genuine low level Strosek hatches on eBay.de in the past.....

Actually I hadn't seen/heard of it either. I am now scarred for the remainder of my life, however.

Lol, I agree I have a silver 968 and after waxing it on Sunday I have been in love the past couple of days. That thing looks hideous. With a normal rear hatch that car would look awesome, nice wheels as well.

I also like the dpcargo to some degree. ISTR last year DP was selling of the last few remaining kits (marketing speak for getting rid of stuff taking up space IMHO). Only the cost was off putting IMHO because looking at all the pictures I could find it looked really good on the S2/turbo base.

When I was about 9 I read an article on a Strosek 928 that had gullwing doors and thought it was awesome, from about the age of 10 onwards I realised Strosek only make stuff for ppl completely devoid of any taste.

It would look better without the tiny little spoiler pretending to make it look even sportier.

Left as a smooth rear, I think it would work much better. Every builder, painter, landscaper would be queueing up for one [:D]
