944 Mat Recommendations

944 man

Im looking for a set of reasonable mats for a 944. The last mats that I had (a long time ago in a new car) were new, original and fitted with small metal tangs and press studs and I dont have any experience of aftermarket mats, which seem to be a minefield.

Original mats last very well, but all aftermarket mats seem to have a relatively short life expectancy despite varying prices.

Can anyone suggest a relatively cheap supplier? Im hoping for mats that fit and dont wear through and curl up within six months, but I dont want to pay a great deal, because anything more than a few pounds and I think that OEM mats would be a better buy.

Any help appreciated.

I suppose that Im looking for the best quality eBay mats, for the least money, that people have used and found to be reasonable...

Perhaps not what you want to hear but I recommend you buy OEM. They will be more cost effective in the long term, they also wont ruck up, wear through or keep moving under your feet. They also look fantastic and even come with a small allen key for fitting!

I had a set of (quality) ebay matts but they wore through in 18 months, they replaced a set of Porsche matts that had been in the car for years. New matts from Porsche are now actually 968 matts with slightly different but superior method of fixing to the floor.

They use the same materials as Porsche. I bought a single 993 driver's mat for half the price from an OPC (£50) and it was identical.

A set was ordered for our 944 Turbo, specially made to order with proper "turbo" logo script embroidered in - £105 inc VAT & delivery for a set of 4 (only front had logo). Not a bargain but you get what you pay for.

I had overlooked David actually. Porsche supplied mats are usually the best, but Im looking for a non-original colour (bright red) to brighten up the cabin a little.

It seems like a good idea, but Ive only ever had genuine Porsche mats in the correct matching colours before, so Im not sure that itll work. In light of this I still think that cheaper mats are the way to go, but not too cheap, and hopefully not 'cheap'.

I have a couple of "cheaper" sets to put in mine from these folk

They seem to do 944 mats and you can design them yourself in terms of colour (and you can have red), trim and script (if you want that!) The super velour ones for yours come in at around £32 I think - more if you add writing, of course. While nowhere near OE thickness they seem pretty reasonable for the money to me.
Although I get some ribbing from my fellow 997ers I quite like them! Are you ready.........[:D]

these are excellent, £60 a set so not as cheap as ebay but cheaper than original Porsche and probably just as good

I'm sure I have a set of red mats in a 944 that I will more than likely be breaking. If you want I will take a look at them tomorrow and advise you on the condition. I can take some photos if you like and email them to you.

Let me know if you are interested.

I just called them actually as I was interested in the boot mat for the 944 (fits over existing mat), they guy was very helpful and emailed a diagram of the shape of the bootmat, looks like it might be for an earlier 924/944? He is based in MK and says can also make custom boot mat to fit car. May take the car there sometime.

.....I purchased new porsche carpets and new Porsche mats from OPC but when they arrived they were different colours (Black) the mats are quite grey in comparison ....so I returned them I'm on the look out for better ones......OPC told me the matt manufacturer is not the original supplier.....[>:]

I bought a £60 set from Autostyle when I first bought the car 14 years ago and they lasted 12 years before getting too shabby for the S2 (they are now in my Clio :ROFLMAO: ) I replaced them with genuine ones from Porsche at £90 two years ago and they are useless in comparison to the Autostyle. The Porsche ones don't fit quite right, have already curled up at the edges, the centre of the heel pad looks quite worn and to be honest the quality of the pile is nowhere near as plush as the Autostyle ones.

I'll probably be getting another Autostyle set before too long
