944 Memory lane

Great memories, thanks for finding those Tony, I think the low resolution from early digital pics really adds to the atmosphere.

I loved that trip to Le Mans, I believe it was 2001 and the Audi won with the Bentley shaped Audi coming 3rd. The highlight for me was 'Darkside Dave' from the Cumbrian Region reading aloud from the Haynes 'book of lies' around the campfire (the Haynes 944 manual is almost as useful as a chocolate teapot for most 944 jobs)

:) I did find a couple of photos ( a fuzzy one of the sacred glow in the dark Haynes manual - and a shaky one of the actual reading*), but thought they were a bit too 'special' in that you really had to be there!

* The photographer may have been quite drunk by that stage of the evening

what a wonderful thread! Really takes me back. I will have to try to find some old boxes of pictures. I know I have some from the 2007 Jamsport dyno day somewhere. I have the printout but no idea where the pictures are!

Here is a pic from a Bedford trackday in 2013. If I remember correctly there were about 40 944s booked on to the trackday

Great photos ! I wasn't around for the "early years" but have many fond memories of Rutland, Silverstone Classic, Breakfast Runs to Goodwood and the South Coast, Dyno Runs, Frontrunners and the Cotswold Rallies to name but a few. Happy days indeed !

This is a great thread. It really did take me down memory lane. My late father loved his boats, so I visited him one day working in the boat yard and took a pic of my then car recently purchased car. I then took it to Silverstone for the Titanic Dyno day and was blown away by the cars being run that day, particularly 'ruff', still in 2005, can you spot your car?!. Mine looks a bit different now, but one day, I may go back to the original look...

2005?... I may be there Phil? think my car ran twice on the dyno there...long time ago now...

Woot! Memories indeed .... I think I joined just at the very end of the Titanic era but was at a few of the events with photos on here.

My S2 is hopefully going to be back on the road with a shiny new MOT in a couple of months time. Are there any meet ups at all these days, or are they to remain in the past for evermore?

Good old days
944 track days at Snetterton,Donno,Silverstone,Bedford...
Dyno days on the”rollers of truth”
Meeting up in Merseyside somewhere?Sparky brake pads -anyone else remember this?
chasing LiL down the M1 to the ace cafe,Tony operating on a MAF under a streetlight
John and Rick keeping me company at Bedford as I waited for a tow truck
Rutland meets with truly impressive numbers
Evenings at a keyboard with the Forum on fire with discussion
Building a Turbo race car and going racing
Happy happy days ??

Been reminiscing massively since above post, really good times back in the old days..!!!
Im going to make a real effort to drive a 944 more, that drive following LiL down to the Ace cafe when you could do a solid 70 mph for most of the way..[8|]
I know there was a pro/and less pro opinion of Promax back in the day but whatever anyone says they really were fun to deal with, really miss having that facility available,my nephew (Godson) bought a lovely 951 and wanted to get it tweaked and there isnt really anyone left that specialises in them unless you go to JMG on south coast (Which is a long way away from Leicester).

Good to see you back online - I need to drive mine more too, but good to hear the next generation are enjoying 951s too!
