944 Rat Pack for Blenheim

Knowing how popular modified 944s are with some people, and how unpopular with others, I thought it would be quite fun to have a 944 Rat Pack display at Blenheim. This way we can put all the modified cars together in one place and put hazard tape around them with other suitable warning signs and the like.

If you would like put your car forward for one or both the days display please make your name known and we will start a list.

Saturday
John Sims - Black Turbo - wrong wheels, wrong seats, wrong brakes & suspension, completely wrong roll hoop, wrong induction, turbo, injectors, engine management and [] front splitter, wrong indicators and some very vulgar additional gauges.
Suffolk944- Black Turbo - wrong exhaust, chip and wastegate, splitter, indicators, wheels & suspension

Sunday
John Sims - Black Turbo - wrong bits as above.
Suffolk944 - Black Turbo - wrong bits as above.
Peter Empson - White Lux - Wrong engine, suspension, front body, tailgate, seats, interior, wheels, lights, pretty much everything

Strange, but appropriate, if you look at the profile of a 944 it is rather rat shaped.

I look forward to your comments.

Mine is too ratty: I dont even have glass windows or carpets! The 'lifetimesambitioners' would choke..... [:D]

Sounds just the job - How many days will it be there?

I wonder if I could talk Rick into doing us some Rat Pack decals?

This is a very good idea. There's no chance I'll be coming that far south, but I wholeheartedly support the plan!

Yup am up for that. Am there for Saturday and possibly for at least part of Sunday. Wrong bits as per my sig, oh plus wrong wheels, wrong splitter, wrong indicator lenses, wrong stereo, wrong steering wheel....Hope thats wrong enough ! [:D]

Hmmm,

Can't bring old one, now has standard mirrors back on.

New one is completely standard. If I change the armrest for a 968 oddments tray can I please be in the "ratpack" display? I feel it's where my heart lies....[&:]

If anyone is planning a dyno day in the South, I will be going for a de-cat and chip back-to-back test. Is that modded enough? Or will I really have to get clear lenses as well? [;)]

We'll have to try to convince SimonD to bring along his track slag too, he's got an impressive collection of moss growing on it at the moment and it looks ace [:D] No need for polish, I suspect he uses Miracle Gro.

Id be interested to see the result of some poverty-spec chips too. Surely worth £45?

Lol, off topic but yes, that's the point of the excersise.

I've got pretty fed up over the years with all the claims and counter claims over performance increases on S2s. We N/A guys tend to get swallowed up by the "boooosty boys" when it comes to subtle improvements to the cars. Or even less than subtle. [;)]

Whilst a chip and de-cat isn't going to liberate huge flocks of ponies, it will be interesting to see the immediate result on a dyno, then an impartial view on the improvement in driveability. It always cracks me up that people worry about a few HP in a car that has probably lost 20% of it's initial vigour and rides on shot suspension. [&:]

Ps, Simon, your inbox is full. I did try to reply earlier! Please delete some of the old messages and I'll try again tomorrow.

Sorry, I have rectified that now. Ideally Id like to see back to back tests with Autothority chips, Promax and the eBay type £45-ers. Id expect/hope that the Promax ones come out on top (I bet you were concerned when you saw me mention their name, but nothing to worry about [:D]) but I wouldnt be surprised to see the generic types close behind and the equal of Autothority parts.

You might find yourself putting the 'S2 SE Myth' to bed too, because if those dodgy superchips added 25bhp in 1991 then I'll eat my Arai.....

No, Andy is quite old enough to stand up for himself! [:D]

They are the people who've offered to do the back-to-back test. On the assumption that it's done in conjunction with a road test as well. I'm happy to pay for the part, as it'll be an interesting experience.

One thing is sure, I'd not trust cheap e-bay chips to be worth the saving. Sure, they might be dodgy copies of proper chips, but is it worth the risk? Again, I'm not holding out any hope that my car will produce exactly 211 BHP. A de-cat will obviously help, and a decent chip should show a small headline improvement but some real difference on road.

Anyway, it'll have to wait until we get a dyno day organised south of Watford. [8|]

Mines looking particulrly ratty at the moment - raised some comments from others about giving up polishing at the last dyno day - when is blenheim?

Just an idea, much as I hate any invasion of stickies is it worth considering one for 944 events (wasn't there one a while back?) so that anyone could see at a glance what is happening and when? If it's a good idea I'd be happy to maintain it if it would take some pressure off the mods.

<Edited to add> I've just noticed it's in the FAQ's section. Shows how much attention I pay :ROFLMAO:

I'm not convinced yours would be Ratty enough Paul. We do have poor standards to maintain.

We might have to decide on some rules as to what qualifies as Rat Spec. I would suggest a minimum of three external modifications, at least some attempt at tuning and a minimum of three internal modifications.

Three piece wheels fitted.
951 PU fitted.
Polycarbonate hatch and side windows fitted

Carpets removed along with other trim.
Window regulators removed along with door cards
Original seats removed.

Sticker on rear bearing the legend 'not concours, not original, theyre worth nowt: now get over yourself!'

My 924s+ would certainly qualify. Almost worth the membership fee, just to have someone tell me
A) That mine's powered by a van engine, you know
B) Weren't 924s fitted with an interior..?
