944 Rat Pack for Blenheim

ORIGINAL: John Sims

I would suggest a minimum of three external modifications, at least some attempt at tuning and a minimum of three internal modifications.

I would love to come along to this but Im afraid my poor S may not qualify []

Non Standard alloys (for an 'S' that is)
Non standard rear Valance (for an 'S')
erm I can put a dent in somewhere or maybe add a sticker

I have a K+N Air filter

Non standard stereo
non standard tax disc holder
clip on mobile holder

Would this be enough to let me attend ? I would hate to miss this opportunity to chat to other enthusiastic owners.

(One thing I miss from Skoda owning period was the fun to be had in 'tweaking' [:D])

It is a bit more Mouse Pack than Rat Pack perhaps but I admire your dedication with offering to introduce a dent.

Perhaps we could put you on the Reserve Rat list [;)]

Please come along to Blenheim anyway - Rat Spec or not. The whole Rat Pack Display is just as a bit of fun and to make part of the 944 Register parking area a bit different to all of the other registers. It perhaps demonstrates another aspect of 944 ownership and is maybe more indicative of those who buy a 944 because of the car/price/potential/value for money performance rather than because it has Porsche badge. These criterria don't require a car to be concourse standard and wouldn't qualify as such anyway.

The event is open to everyone. All 944's will be welcome in the 944 Register Display Parking, be they Clean & Standard - Rat Spec or anything inbetween.

I think it is superb that we have people now pondering changes to their perfectly adequate 944's to qualify for Rat Pack status - well done chaps. The contrast between a row of Rat Spec cars and preserved/restored unaltered cars should make for an interesting aspect of the show.

Oooooohhhh Mr Sims - someone is going to be very upset by you chaps making your 944's anything less than factory-standard and immaculate. I bet you don't all store them inside all the time either, do you? Tut tut tut ...

Having said that, I fear my S2 wouldn't quality for the Rat Stand (I say with a heavy heart). A K&N, a drilled airbox and some non-stock suspension will rule me out. Non-standard radio? Small audio amplifier? Clock modification that is designed to look as original as possible? It still has the original D90's and flag mirrors ...

"¦ a minimum of three external modifications "¦
Tinted windows, smoked rear lights, smoked indicators and repeaters, deleted rear wiper.

"¦ at least some attempt at tuning "¦
Erm "¦ it's a got a Lindsay Racing boost enhancer valve. Oh yeah, and an adjustable wastegate. And a custom exhaust system. Oooh, and there's the custom built short shift kit too (front and rear linkages).

"¦ and a minimum of three internal modifications.
Does dog sick count? There's usually plenty of that on the mats. Flamingeye dash light kit, a custom subwoofer box and 9" sub in the rear storage cubby, Alpine amp mounted in the spare wheel, an iPod hidden in the old cassette holder space, hands-free phone mic installed in the storage space beneath the head unit "¦ oh yeah, and about the head unit too "¦

Who knew such a clean and tidy car would qualify as a rat?

Im not sure that I will be free. Ive been avoiding it for a long time, but I have to go with my girlfriend yto her parents holiday cottage in Great Yarmouth. Hopefully not for the full term currently under discussion..... [;)]

I was just thinking I would forget the invite to the national concour with the Turbo, and bring the rat S2 to join the "in" crowd (Inside: rear seat delete, one heated leather seat, one cloth, one rather large lpg tank. Outside: golf-ball dents on roof, tow-bar, and recently some kindly soul added a narrow front wing and go-faster scratches. Tuning: Um, I changed the plugs once). Unfortunately it clashes with an OU residential course so I can do neither[:(]

I guess my mainly original S2 (forgetting the momo steering wheel, drilled hole in bonnett (dont ask) and dodgy re-spray in non-original colour) is not going to be obviously ratty enough to be included in this pack.

What do you have planned for those of us who still have orange lenses and tape players?[:D]

Hi John

Are "Guests of the Club" allowed to be included in the "Rat Pack" display???

Mine does have wrong wheels, wrong mirrors, wrong steering wheel, wrong tailgate, wrong indicators, wrong stereo with amp and sub!!!, splitter, level 2 kit with chip and wastegate, MBC and Boost gauge.

Just need to get a pass out for one of the days now.

Cheers

Non Rat Spec cars will be welcome in the 944 Register parking so you will still be with 944s.
I can see this rapidly becoming a sort of inverse-concours event. The more non-standard and 'ratty' your car is, the more proud of it you will be.

Could we get to the stage where to do well in the 'normal' concours would be a badge of shame, with people hiding winners trophies and denying it for years to come ... ? []

Perhaps, if you were to show some kind of inclination to become a member.
