Hi. I don't know if this is going to be of interest but I'll show you anyway. I have just built an S2 engine for a customer
who is going to run it in a race series where he has to run the original inlet manifold. With the inlet being the main restriction
we had a play and this is the result.

We have had the engine on the dyno today and here is the results.

like that then copy and paste the url from photobucket btween the two words like this

Picture loads OK now. Are you running solid lifters, reground cams and balancer shaft delete on this engine Tim.

The picture looks good but what about the innards? Keenly interested in how you get 280hp out of an S2...

Yes Paul, all the bits I did to my own engine but high compression and bigger valves.

very cool.... is the intake now a restriction at high revs? How much power could you make if you could keep it going up to 7500?

Yes we think the intake was getting restrictive after 6500. We did take it to 7500 and the power was dropping off. It would have been
nice to try it on a set of individual throttle bodies. May be next time

Very cool results [8D] Obviously this is on a race car where the budget will be quite generous but I wonder if a lot of road users would be interested when it came round to rebuild time

Naturallyaspiratedtim is as impressive as turbotim [:)]

Great to see the potential of the M44 in this form.

thanks for posting

Yes we (well me anyway) are very interested. Turbotim please provide the details on your build. Very keen to know what mods produced this kind of power.

I'm sure that quite a few will be interested! Could you tell us what you have done to get it to perform like this please? And I hesitate to ask, but ballpark cost?!!

Im sure you will be impressed when you see it Andy. I think we may have an M3 beater here. We already had the driver. Now the engine!!!!

Several years ago I 'tongue in cheek' challenged Jon at JMG to work on getting 300bhp out of an S2 engine, I can't believe that someone has got that close so I am really very impressed with Tims result. I can only imagine it's the ability to rev to nearly 7000rpm that yields the result but it's good to see the torque is spread over a wide rev range too.

I wonder what would happen if you were allowed to mess around with the intake manifold too?

Bazz are you running in Modern Classics again, or Future Classics?

It does look very impressive. I even checked the time the OP posted to see if I had been April fooled as conventional wisdom is that this can't be easily done!

Does the car have to run the original inlet manifold? If it's MC or FC you are talking about, my inderstanding is that you have to run the original TYPE of induction, but as the 944 had injection this means that it can run ITBs and mapped injection. It does not have to be the same manifold.

Independent throttle bodies are allowed. But its not a straight forward job. The servo is in the way. It can be done and it will be done. But not this year. I think 280 bhp is enough for this year. If it can give the M3s a shock we will be happy. Next year we want a 996 beater. And i have every confidence that. Tim and Specialist Car Services. Can achieve this. 300 to 320 bhp could be possible. If you want to sponsor me for the extra cost we will have it this year.Bazz

Do I interpret A/F at circa 13.2 :1 as the air fuel mixture? In that case it looks a little rich, but I am only a beginner, but maybe rich is good for cylinder head temperature?
