944 S2 280 bhp Engine upgrade

I am very interested as well, both in the costs the details and ultimately how Luke gets on with it on competition. Its the one thing which has always held back the potential of the 944 and 968 N/A when competing in open marque racing where you end up either running against M3s et al or mentally tuned and light FWD stuff.

BTW it may interest you that in between doing on all those simulations of the 996, boxster, 968 and 944 running in the club championship I also put a 290 Bhp flat torque engine into my own S2 model and was amazed to see it knock 9 seconds a lap off the Silverstone GP time. I think a few people may be in for a shock how fast you guys go with power and torque characteristics like that.

Im sure you will be impressed when you see it Andy. I think we may have an M3 beater here. We already had the driver. Now the engine!!!!

Should buy my E36 M3 - 280 Bhp comes as standard!

To old to move over to the darkside. And had a bad experience with a M3 once. And i want people to see that the 944 S2 is not ready for the knackers yard yet. I have every confidence in the old girl. Luke doesnt know he has got a 50bhp increase yet. I might not tell him

I could see a 280 bhp S2 giving a 3.0 M3 a hard time but a standard Evo has around 320 bhp...

We hope to have it out for brands. But silverstone might be possibe at the beggining of may. Watch this space. I believe Tim and specialist car services have come up with something special here.

I suspect that all the stuff that interests us is what Tim wants to keep under his hat...

The crankshaft must have benefitted from magic to remain intact at those speeds, if it is still the original part.

I thought the same initially, but you'll notice the headline bhp figure is made at only 6650 rpm which is only a few hundred more than stock.

Obviously if it could rev even higher and had a custom intake I bet it would creep pretty close to the magic 300

Picture loads OK now. Are you running solid lifters, reground cams and balancer shaft delete on this engine Tim.

Yes Paul, all the bits I did to my own engine but high compression and bigger valves.

Is that 968 inlet valves then?

BTW Catcams claim to make a range of cams for these engines from billet, they are the only outfit I have found for several years making either S2 or 968 uprated cams. I don't know if you looked at their products? I haven't found anyone yet who has used them and can say if they are any good or not.

Cheers
Neil

I have your car on the ramp and old engine will be out Friday ready for the 280BHP beast to be inserted.

Cant wait to see it on the track

Hmmm - it looks like the alchemy involved in producing 280 HP from an S2 is going to remain a secret. Too bad, I'd like to know if this is reasonably achievable (and affordable) for a road car.

Im sure if you email Tim or give SCS Special Car Services of peterborough a call. They would be willing to discuss it with you. But i dont think they will publish costs and a build breakdown of there achievements and technical aspect on an open forum. Bazz
Ps. The car should be racing in CSCC modern classics in may. Come and have a look.

Like Tim said earlier there's a some of what went into his turbo in this S2 engine. Check out his turbo build thread.
