944 S2 Bilstein Inserts for crimped front struts

I know of someone on this forum who is amazingly restrained with regards to Oli Snellman - far more than I could/would be.

I can't recommend anyone deals with him I'm afraid.

He's been more restrained than I would have been. Personal issues aside, it's been over a year and still excuses []

I tried to deal with him in the past but he seems to never ever reply to e-mails or PMs.

I would be very interested in this... possibly the DIY option. Where is the best source for the inserts and how much?

It's nice to see someone in the UK who may now be ready to supply converted struts.

I agree - I messaged Olli Snellman but he didn't reply.

It was because I couldnt get any reply from Olli that i decided to make my own

I seem to have a mix of people registering an interest in complete exchange strut or the collar only so I am going ahead and costing for both options

For those people who are handy you can use chopped early or golf mk1/2 strut tops which fit inside the 944 struts and can be welded in a similar way [;)]

I did consider this method

Aye that's the one, I've had a pair of gutted mk2 struts sat here for a while just in case I decide to go down this route... KW's are looking more likely for me at the minute though if I'm honest as they'll suit my needs better, but at a price of course!

One concern I did have was the bump stop

The original unit has a bump stop under the protective gaitor but its internal bore is too small for the new Bilstein unit

So a quick call to Bilstein UK and they have confirmed that the insert I have has an internal bump stop built in

Very tempted for the Cab assuming it is not too harsh, was quite impressed with the rear b6 on my coupe, they have only done one trackday though.

Struts now all fitted and what a transformation

Previously my car had a judder upon applying light application of the brakes - NOW NOTHING !
(I feel this was caused by excessive movement at the top of the casing where the strut exits the casing)

Slightly harsh and a bit clunky over rough road surfaces - NOW NOTHING !

Intermittent thud from O/S/R - NOW NOTHING !

Virtually all body roll has gone and the car feels very sure footed without any harsh or excessively hard ride quality

Bilsteins - Plug and Play or Fit and Forget ??

Too right they are !

I have checked the camber and I need a small adjustment on both sides to obtain 0' +/- 20' 1990 on S2 models

Good job well done!

I see you are still running the standard springs (pink dots) on your S2, now that your are running proper dampers I can only suggest to consider upgrading to 968 CS springs (blue dot), as they are slightly stiffer and will lower the car just a bit, which in my humble opinion should make a more comprehensive package with the new dampers.

Looks great Dave, so glad to hear the ride matches the looks!

Enjoy [8D]

It certainly has made the car "feel like new" again

I opted for new standard S2 springs as initially I was going to go the lowered route but as the car sits very level and ride quality is now excellent I think I have done the right thing and kept it standard height / spring rate

Just checking back to see if you're able to offer this upgrade on an exchange basis or sell the threaded part for DIY?
My front struts are completely knackered! Loads of play on the offside one...
