Im thinking about breaking my S2 but have no where to store the parts at present, so i was planning to sell parts straight of the car but need to see what interest there is on the parts first ??. ps I can arrange a courier to deliver most parts.

Why are you thinking of breaking it? I haven't looked at all the photos, but it looks like a nice example from the 3 or 4 I opened.

Its lost oil pressure either down to the pump or the pick up pipe probably snapped ??.Other than the engine trouble the car is fine, even has cruise control !!!. Im breaking it as i need some of the parts for my turbo but most parts inc shell are for sale !!

Not thought about selling the car whole then? Im sure someone would be gratefull to buy such i clean looking car and do the work.

Oh dear - are 944's really at the stage where they are scrapped for want of an oil pump and/or pick-up pipe? I'm hoping not ...

How bad is the problem, and do you think it has caused engine damage as a consequence?

It really does seem a shame to scrap such a nice example. This is an enthusiasts forum - we should be trying to keep these things on the road, not cart them off to the big motorway in the sky.

It really is a shame to break it , did think about fixing it but i dont need another 944 + its worth more to me in bits to restore my turbo and At least its going to help lots of other 944's live on !!!!

Gosh. If I was an elderly relative of yours with a large estate, I'd be quite worried by a comment like that! [:D]

Oli. I havent really looked into the engine but before it lost presure it was fine. If it had been my own car when it went wrong i would have fixed it but i bought it for parts and cant afford to get sentimental about it !!!

So what do you actually need from the car for your, could you not sell it as a rolling car with no engine?

I think if i was in the position i would sell as a complete and purchase the parts new from the money made. Just seems a reall shame thats all.

Which suspension parts exactly?

Chaps, it sounds like we need to find this guy some Turbo suspension parts, and then someone will be able to claim an S2 which needs only an oil pump and possibly a pick-up pipe.

When there have been threads on here about what a shame it is that 944's are being lost to minor bumps and insurance write-offs, it seems a minor tragedy that an example as nice as this one appears to be should be disposed of so readily.

Its worth more in parts than to sell complete though, this will be my 3rd 944 ive broken up in the last few years !!!. I know it does seem a shame and ive given it losts of consideration but im wanting a car to track so the turbo won !!

I have to agree! I think thats a real shame if it just needs a new engine dropping in it. Makes me feel like setting up a charity to save these cars going to the scrap heap, are there any millionaires out there that would like to contribute ?

Im not sure if the engine has been damaged or not ,it was driven for about 12 miles with no oil but hasnt seized and still turns over.

It has always struck me as interesting that buildings of interest or historical importance are protected (with good reason) by English Heritage, and you need permission to change them or knock them down - permission that is hard to get.

However, when it comes to cars of similar interest and importance, people can do what they like with them. Hack them around, add on disgusting tack (modified Mk1 Golf GTi, anyone? Chavved-up Mk2 Escort Mexico, maybe?) or simply break them for parts 'because they are worth more in bits than they are together.' What they don't seem to realise is that by doing this they are pushing the whole of the 944 scene (for want of a better phrase) further down the road to oblivion, and hastening the day when we will all be bimbling around in 1.0 euroboxes.

"Grand-daddy, what did you drive when you were younger?"

"I drove something called a Porsche 944."

"Oh, what's one of those then gramps? Were they any good?"

"Oh yes, they were so good I scrapped mine. I'd love to point one out to you but there don't seem to be any of them around any more. I wonder why?"
